Today, it's my girlfriend's birthday. To celebrate, I spent the day with her and then took her out to a really nice dinner. She is currently giving me the silent treatment because I didn't write "Happy Birthday" on her Facebook wall. FML
Today, I thought it would be nice to take my girlfriend out to a nice restaurant for my birthday. She got a little headache after we ordered, so she went outside to get some air. I ate a $100 meal and had Happy Birthday sang to me by the restaurant staff. Alone. FML
Today, it's my mom's birthday. I woke up at midnight to be the first to tell her happy birthday. When I awoke in the morning, I decided to bake her a cake. Little did I know my whole family was going out to lunch to celebrate. I wasn't invited. FML
Today, it's my 16th birthday. My parents forgot about it, and planned a weekend out of town. I was alone on my birthday. FML
Today, I celebrated my birthday. By that, I mean I spent most of the day alone in a field, waiting for my boyfriend to have time for me, then we broke up, and I ended up spending the evening crying alone on a beach. FML
Today, for my birthday, I got a hotel room for me and my boyfriend. He decided that spending time with a female friend was more important than spending time with me. FML
Today, it was my birthday. My family usually gives me a financial gift, but didn't this time and said nothing about it. I cooked my own birthday dinner without help, then washed everyone's dishes. I got my own cake and ate it alone because they were too busy getting drunk. Nobody bothered to sing Happy Birthday either. FML
Today, it's my birthday. I spent the day doing nothing but chores, amongst which baking my own birthday cake. I was then so exhausted that I couldn't even stand my own company, so I ate the cake alone on the couch, watching TV. It didn’t taste great. FML
Today, I traveled 3 hours to a town I hate, to spend my birthday with my mom and brother and his family. My mom didn't realize it was my birthday until the cake slice with candles was placed in front of me. FML
Today, it's my 21st birthday. All my friends and family said they were busy so I figured I was getting a surprise party. Nope. They all were actually busy. I spent my birthday alone. FML

A couple solutions: 1. Find a way to your girlfriend's house. 2. Invite your mom along. 3. Talk to your mom about how irrational she's being and hopefully find a way to peacefully continue your plans. Good luck, and happy birthday, OP!

I disagree with number 2. Why would you want to invite your mom after she yelled at your girlfriend like that. Also, like with children, you shouldn't reward that type of behavior. I'd just call the girlfriend and plan to meet up at another time or day.

Maybe his mom wouldn't let him. Or maybe he would feel bad about taking sides. It's hard to pick between your mother and your girlfriend, regardless of who's being irrational. It would be better for him to stick up for his girlfriend because his mother is in the wrong, but you don't know what his mom might've said to him, so I feel like it's unfair to label him as an enabler. I think you would need to hear more from the OP to truly determine wether he's an enabler or not. The limited amount of characters on an FML can make it difficult to fully describe everything that happened.

The point is, OP let his girlfriend leave without him, and now OP isn't doing anything because his mum got jealous but won't take him out. You don't need much more proof that that.

Judging by the fact that he said he's spending his birthday in his room, it makes him sound like he's under 17, in which case I don't think he was allowed to leave the house. He may be spending his birthday in his room because he wanted to be alone after all that and not near his mom, but I also wondered if it was because he got grounded as well. Either way it sounds like he is too young to have been able to leave or to successfully stand up to his mom. Either way FYL op.
