Today, my fiance told me that he no longer loves me, that he still has feelings for an ex. The wedding is off and he needs the ring back to give to the right woman. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Doomed
Today, my fiancée handed me her engagement ring back and told me she felt like she's pressuring me into marriage, so to make me feel better about it we’re no longer engaged. On top of this, I found out she’s started talking to her ex again. FML
Today, my fiancé told me he didn't have the money to make payments on my engagement ring and that I either have to return it, or make the payments myself. Now we aren't engaged any more, and are "dating." FML
Fixed it
Today, my fiance finally began seeing a therapist, after months of my begging him to. The therapist convinced him that he and I had "irreconcilable differences" so now he's asked for the ring back. FML
Today, I found out that my engagement ring was actually my husband's ex-fiancée's. FML
Not the one
Today, an ex-boyfriend of mine came to the jewelry store I work at to pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend. The same guy who just a few months earlier ended our 8-year relationship because I wanted marriage and he didn't. FML
Damage
Today, my now apparently ex-fiance let me know our engagement was off by throwing my ring in the trash. No words, just throwing it away. I always slept without it, to avoid damaging it. Guess I'm single again. FML
Who asked you?
Today, my fiancée's ex sent me screenshots of their conversation. In it, he told her how badly he’d wanted to marry her, what a great life he'd have given her, and what a huge mistake she'd made by letting him get away. My ring, our house even our pets should’ve been hers. Gee, thanks for settling. FML
Today, after months of arguing and conflict, I broke up wIth my fiancé. Or at least, I tried to. The wedding's off, but only until he can convince me to want to marry him again. FML
Hot headed
Today, during an argument with my fiancé, I threw my engagement ring on the ground. The center stone broke off. Now he's couch surfing, and has sworn that he won't marry me unless I can find the stone. One stupid moment might actually ruin my life. FML
Today, at our wedding, instead of saying "I do", my fiancé paused before saying, "I can't do this", stepped down from the altar and proposed to my maid of honor. When she obviously refused, he ran from the venue bawling. He's not returning my calls. FML

Re #6: Yeah, but she isn't the one who is breaking the promise to get married! He did! I'm a law student, and there is no consensus amongst courts as to what to do when an engagement is broken off. Some jurisdictions say that no matter what, the man gets the ring back since he bought it. Others say the one who didn't break off the engagement, is the one who keeps the ring, since it was a gift conditioned on a marriage occurring. Other courts say it's an inter vivos gift made to the woman and doesn't have to be returned. I say do the research and find out what your jurisdiction says. If they say you can keep the ring, I say screw him and keep it/pawn it. Furthermore, I believe the Emily Post approach is if you are a girl who breaks off an engagement, you return the ring. If he breaks it off, you keep the ring. Why make his life any easier? Sell the damn thing and treat yourself to a vacation so you can forget that loser. With time, you'll see he did you a huge favor that he revealed his true nature now, instead of down the line. I wish you the best of luck. God bless.

I went through the same thing except I actually married him then he cheated on me, got someone pregnant and I finally left him. It is a very difficult thing to go through but be strong and most important KNOW you are worth so much more than that. Pawn the ring and never look back. You'll find happiness again :)

Ok. none of you mentioned how ridiculous it is that the guy wants to give the same ring to a new bride. WTF? that's messed up. If i was the guy, there would be no way i'd ask for the ring back after all i put my ex-fiance thru. screw it woman! just give that shit back! what a crappy fella.

Give him the ring back. Then laugh at his ex because she recieved a second hand ring.

You get to keep the ring. He called off the wedding, not you. There for you get to keep it. It's the law. Don't you just love legislation sometimes? Then you should pawn it and buy yourself something nice.

It's technically a gift, right? So, I say keep it. Get some money from and do something that makes YOU happy! (I know this post is old, I'm just going through random FMLs)
