Today, my father told me that because of my 4.0 with all AP classes, I could choose where to eat tonight. My stepmother told him I wanted to eat at IKEA, of all places, because that's what she wanted. Guess who he believed, and guess where I am right now. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
FINE!
Today, my dad and mom and I were going out to eat dinner. My dad wanted a romantic dinner just with my mom so he told me to make an excuse not to go. I did, which ended up as a huge fight, grounded and phone taken away. My dad just stood there in the background putting thumbs up. FML
Why though?
Today, I asked my parents why we hadn't been out to eat as a family for so long. Both mom and dad agreed, so we made plans to go have breakfast at the Waffle House. Upon arriving, Dad threw a tantrum in the restaurant over nothing, and insisted on yelling at us the entire time. Guess I got my answer. FML
HALLO?
Today, I was at IKEA with my parents. I walked away from them and later I heard the speaker of the store call my name asking me to come to the playground because my mom and dad were worried. I'm 18. FML
Today, my mom asked if I wanted to come to dinner with my parents and my grandparents who are in from London. When we got to the restaurant, there was a wait. My mom made me walk home because they could get a table quicker for a group of four than a group of five. FML
Happy Birthday
Today, my family asked where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner. They shot down my every suggestion and decided on sushi. I'm allergic, so the only thing I could eat was a veggie appetizer. Dad said I need to "expand my palate." FML
Second best
Today, my mom admitted that the only reason she took me out for lunch was because she felt guilty over going on a massive shopping spree for my sister while I was forced to stay home alone. I thanked her for the Wendy's meal anyway. FML
Today, my dad told me he's taking the whole family to Disney World, even my step-brother's girlfriend. But not me, because he can't "afford" it. FML
Fake it til you make it
Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML
Clever boy
Today, I was minding a 6-year old boy. He begged me to take him somewhere. I rang his mum, and she said I could. He picked to go to McDonald's. He ordered chicken. After his meal, he told me he was vegetarian, and wanted to try some meat while his mum wasn't around. I got the blame. FML
Communication breakdown
Today, my mom, who still refuses to get a mobile phone, was late coming home, so I was sent to buy dinner. Dad wanted seafood. I picked it up and returned, only to find Mom was already back with McDonald's. Dad insisted we eat that, despite my protests and MY money I'd spent on HIS request. I made sure Mom saw the Verizon ads. FML

So I guess when you order food, they give you a box full of ingredients and a tiny butter knife?

Maybe your stepmom just thought a 4.0 was worth a $4 meal

I've never been in an IKEA. I never knew. That's pretty neat.

Let me guess: stepmom says you want IKEA, You say you definitely do not, stepmom accuses you of lying about it just to pick a fight with her, aaaaan off to IKEA you go.

kind of your fault because you could have spoken up and told him the truth

Pretty sure OP did try to fight it, as they said “guess who he believed.”

If you have a 4.0 GPA I bet you could have thrown a life preserver into all the bullshit your stepmom is saying and save you and your dad from drowning.

Clarifying time: Yes, this happened. My father told me I could choose, so I said I'd think about it. I left the room, and came back a little while later. My dad said he liked my choice, and that IKEA sounded great. I told him I never made my decision, and my step mother said she had just loved the idea when she heard it from me. They then spent the entire car ride telling me I was "a detriment to this family" and I "don't deserve such amazing parents." They don't understand why I wanted my mother to have full custody.

I told my daughter if she gets a 4.0 I would buy her a car. I should have started lower

Aren’t AP classes weighted though? You should have higher than a 4.0 if you’re getting straight A’s ;)

I’m just teasing you OP, grats on your 4.0 regardless! :)

Picking where to eat is all you would have gotten? What kind of family is that?

If this is the usual dynamic between the three of you, you’ve got more pressing issues than IKEA for dinner. For your sake, I hope you’re only around those two on the weekends or something, or you are almost out of the house. Sounds like a toxic environment. Good luck getting away from it.

So you found out you have a totally white trash stepmom who likes low class food too, no problem dude, take her there for Mother’s Day and it will only cost you .99 cents before 0900!
