Today, my dad brought me home after I was in the hospital for a week. He gets me to my room, hands me a glass of water and some granola bars, then leaves me on my own so he can go play golf. FML

At least he not only brought you home, but also gave you some sustenance. Maybe I'm just odd, but I wouldn't expect my Dad to stay with me if I was alright. I mean, if you were unable to carry on by yourself, like you just had surgery and were not able to move or some similar scenario, then that's ****** up. Other than that, it really doesn't sound too bad.

OP your dad shouldn't have left you on your own, he doesn't need to sit and hold your hand or anything but he at least needs to be in shouting distance incase something happens. Golf is just a waste of a good walk anyways, I'm sure it could have waited.

ah, is see the op has made their father their "bitch."

Depending on WHY she was in hospital and whether it was required she have someone attend them all the time. It might just be the father spent all week looking after the person in hospital visiting and decided to have a little time to himself for an hour or so after he set you up thinking you will probably need rest and sleep just coming back. However if he left knowing you were at risk of something or needed help with basic needs like food, water and bathrooming thats a little mean. I got kicked out of the house and my parents went shopping vs visiting me during my last brain surgery that had me a week in ICU and 2 weeks in hospital - apparently I was selfish asking for help because my brain surgery left me disabled and unable to care for myself. I am such a horrible person thinking as a 19yr old I should ask my parents for basics for a short period.

Ouch, that sucks! D: FYL. This is why I'm glad I was married by the onset of my physical issues. Having my newlywed husband wipe my ass before our first anniversary was embarrassing, but it was better than the alternatives! My parents are amazing and I love 'em, but caretaking and compassion are NOT their strong suits.

Seems like you're well enough to be left alone anyways. Unless you have a broken bone where you can't walk or something, I don't see a huge problem there.

unless you were dying or it was really serious its not that bad that he went out..

Maybe OP cant walk, The longest time i spent in hospital was after I broke my leg and arm at the same time. Most of that time was spent learning to use crutches when i could only use one arm. OP could very easily have broken their leg and needed it pinned or something meaning a week in hospital and now they are home they may be well enough to do most things but they can't walk without assistance.

what else do you want your dad to do? theres only so much we can do.

The hospital probably released her thinking she would have someone home helping her. I doubt the OP would be complaining if she didn't need the help of her father.
