Today, my dad announced to the whole family that we will be having a vegetarian dinner this Christmas to make my step-mum happy. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
I wanna be oppressed so bad
Today, my stepfather decided he was no longer part of our family, and refused to come to family dinner, all because we're all women, and he isn't. FML
Today, when I told my family I was a vegetarian, I expected them to make fun of me because that's just my family. But what I wasn't expecting was my dad to use raw meat as a puppet and make it say, "Eat me! Eat me!" then throw it at my face. FML
Today, my vegan step-mom found out I ate at McDonald's yesterday. She gave me hell and asked me how it feels to give money to "murderers". All while my dad sat quietly by because he's too whipped to speak his mind. It wasn't even her house a month ago. FML
Today, my mom told me that when my sister and I were born, the first thing my dad said was, "I hope they don't turn out vegetarian." I did. FML
Missed the point
Today, after working all day to make a big vegan meal for my family, hoping it would get them to become vegans as well, my brother thought it appropriate to pass around a block of cheese for everyone to grate over the pasta dish. FML
Acquired taste
Today, my daughter said she wanted to be vegetarian like me. Beaming with pride, I made her plant-based burgers for dinner. She took one bite, screamed, "EW!" and started crying and begging for beef burgers. FML
Today, my girlfriend's parents wanted to cook dinner for me. After a whole day of cooking up a storm, her parents cooked an elaborate meal of roast lamb, pork chops and grilled chicken. Rejecting a meal is like spitting in ones face in Chinese culture. I'm vegetarian. FML
Today, my parents told me they're getting a divorce. However, they asked me not to tell any of the family so that the news doesn't spoil Christmas. Thanks, Mom and Dad. FML
Pay no mind
Today, I've been a vegan for a year. It's also the day that I met my dad's new best friend, who happens to be a retired butcher. They tried to pull an intervention on me for not "being sensible" by eating meat. FML
Happy Birthday
Today, my family asked where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner. They shot down my every suggestion and decided on sushi. I'm allergic, so the only thing I could eat was a veggie appetizer. Dad said I need to "expand my palate." FML

My family tried doing that one time. But, I have a car, so when I went to eat a "salad" I ate fried chicken(:

I think what the op is trying to get across is not that vegetarian food is gross but the fact that their dad is making the whole family have a vegetarian meal instead of just the step-mom eating a vegetarian meal! I would cook my own meat and put it on my plate just to piss her off!

Sneak a big mac and eat it under the table

Or, depending on how you feel about your stepmother, eat said Big Mac in front of her while making slight moo noises with each bite..
THE_A_TEEN 28
Or grill an entire rack of baby back ribs and bacon, alk smothered with barbaque sauce and eat them messily in front of her. No one can resist the pig...

Go find a recipe for all the meat dishes you can fit on the table. Then make it very clear you will not the way you eat, especially such a special dinner just so she can feel the world is centered around her

Wow, what a jerk move

I agree. At least make a turkey for the family, and prepare something for her as well.

You can't not include meat and say "good food" at the same time. meat is more important than breathing itself... in my daily living.
Jirekianu2 19
The point is she's making everyone eat vegetarian. In this case somewhat literally shoving her personal beliefs down others throats.

If it doesn't have gravy, it's not good.

Nothing good though lol

Why are they getting thumbed down for just being vegetarians? I'm a vegetarian, and there's a bunch of really good meat substitutes that taste exactly the same.
moros1388 4
They're being thumbed down because they're missing the point. Regardless of if its "good" or not, OP is being forced to eat vagitatian when she obviously doesn't want to; which is wrong to everyone but the most obnoxious, self-righteous vegans.

Yeah! Like...lettuce... :(

#76, no. The main point of the fml is that the father is forcing the family to have a vegetarian dinner on christmas. Is not the matter that the op resented the woman or telling us her dad ruined christmas, only the family christmas dinner for ONE woman.
DelphiCat 17
i could be wrong here, but i have a suspicion the step mum may be the one doing the cooking? Even if it is her dad the chances are quite high there wouldn't be enough people eating the bird to justify having a turkey anyway. Obviously if OP is doing the cooking this IS unfair, and she should consider cooking herself a small bird of some sort anyway. If however, OP is not cooking, then she shouldn't complain so much. You cook, you decide what everyone eats. Besides, as numerous people have pointed out there are plenty of delicious options without meat that most people will never get to experience because it doesn't occur to them vegetable products can be nice!

116- they could just make 2 things. My mom makes vegetarian meals for my sister while the rest of us eat meat when my sister is visiting.

Hahaha @68 VAGITATION!

Well I guess I would not give them thumb down cause it a personal choice however people who forced on other people deserve a thumb down

Humans have been eating meat for thousands of years

Well vegetarian food doesn't mean bad. If its well cooked and tasty, no problem there. Its not traditional but if it makes your mom happy, endure it? P.S. : If there are mangoes, I'm coming.
Miss_Michaela 10
When it comes to christmas, I want my goddamn meat.
leadman1989 16
STEP-mom
Fruit_Dealer 9
I haven't noticed until now the fact that it said step-mom. P.S.: I'm still coming if there are mangoes.
hzlzkgzkgzchxuxh 3
I agree P.S. Pick me up I want mangoes too

Christmas isn't about you it is about family. Still the same food minus the turkey or ham...no big deal. Maybe you will like it.
rattusrattus 19
We have about seven-eleven people over for Christmas dinner. My aunt is vegetarian, no-one else is. We serve her a veggie pie, which is actually quite nice, and then everyone else can have turkey, gammon, pigs in blankets etc. If only a few people want veggie pie, then get a few veggie pies. If there is disagreement over types of meat, get slices of meat rather than a whole bird/joint etc. If the rest of the family feels the same way as the OP, I expect Christmas will not be very merry at all and there may be resentment towards the stepmother (irregardless of her involvement in this decision).

It took me a while to decipher what you meant by "seven-eleven" haha
rattusrattus 19
Oh, yeah... that's an American shopping chain isn't it? *facepalms at her UK-ness*

But if the step mom is the only vegetarian, they should have meat for everyone else

I think it is perfectly fine if your step mom wants to be accommodated for her vegetarianism, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE should have to do the same . make your own meaty meal OP ! !
KJCollard 0
Should have at least made it a BYOM* option!!!! *bring your own meat
