Today, we've hit day 4 with no hot water in my apartment. Today is also day 4 of the office insisting that the plumber is "on his way". My neighbor just got arrested for screaming at them. Looks like we'll be entering day 5 soon. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, it's been a week and a half since our hot water stopped working. Our landlord said he'll get on to it "in 3 days", after having said this already a few days before. I have to wash myself with a bucket and boiled water. FML
Today, I went down to my accommodation office in fiery wrath, demanding that something be done about my three-days-cold shower. Looking dubious, they sent someone back with me. As soon as we got there he looked at me with deep pity and pulled the cord in the corner that activated the hot water. FML
Today, I woke up to a repairman at my door who was simply supposed to turn my water back on in my apartment. Two hours and 5 repairmen later, all I have now is a large hole in my ceiling. Still no water. FML
Today, my roommate forgot to pay the water bill on time, so they shut it off. Now we're without running water for 3 days and I'm taking my morning dump in Target next to a stranger. FML
Today, I woke up to a fog. Literally. A pipe burst in my apartment and scalding water was everywhere. To make matters worse, when I called maintenance he told me he'd come by later, hung up on me, and turned his phone off. He did eventually show up, but it was 5 hours later, well after I'd paid a plumber $200. FML
Today, I found out my landlord is too cheap to turn up the hot water tank enough to have a comfortable shower. There's a huge padlock on the door, she won't budge, and I'm signed in until December. FML
Slumlords
Today, and for the last two weeks, my asshole landlord refuses to fix the hot water supply. My shower is now so cold that peeing on myself while washing is actually helping. I need a new place. FML
Moving day
Today, the water stopped working in our apartment. We are supposed to be moving into a new place tomorrow, so we asked the landlord if we could move in a day early. Upon arrival, we found that the water tank needed to be installed, so there's no water here either. We are now admitting defeat and checking into a hotel. FML
Water shortage

Today, due to plumbing issues, I had to choose between a goosebump-inducing cold or skin-blistering hot shower. This is the 7th day in a row. My husband says it shouldn't be more than another week before he "gets it figured out". FML

Withhold your rent. Set up an escrow account, put your rent money in it, and inform the landlord that you will not pay rent until he fixes the water. You can prove the rent money is available because of the escrow account. If it still doesn't get it fixed, tell him you'll have it done by an outside plumber, and deduct the cost from your rent. I had to do this once when I had no heat. It's not entirely legally defensible (I don't think), but it definitely made them fix my heat. Good luck to you, and hang in there.

Check with fair housing. I believe that in California you can withhold rent (prorated to the number of days without hot water) until they fix it. Basically, you don't have to pay rent for the time it's out.

It is actually legal. If a landlord does not fix something in a reasonable timeframe you can get it fixed by an outside source and deduct the rent. Just make sure you have all the documentation of when the complaint was first filed with the landlord.

Cold showers build character. You're practically getting cross-fit level training for free.

You have the law on your side. Find the Landlord Tenant Lease Act or similar for your state. Lack of hot water in some states, renders a building unlivable under health code and can allow you, as stated above, to withhold rent for those days. You should determine if that is true, and if it is simply post the law and the code at the mailboxes so everyone sees it. Bet it's repaired within an hour. Still withhold your rent, include the law with the lowered check and be sure your neighbors will attest to the dates you've been without hot water.

You're neighbor's a genius! Now he/she can enjoy a hot shower in the comforts of a correctional facility, maybe you should join him/her

At least you have running water, if you take a big pot you can boil water and freshen up and wash your hair.

Boil water on the stove, fill the kitchen sink and wash up right there in the kitchen. I've done it. My water heater failed in the middle of winter and it took two weeks to get someone out to replace it.

I highly doubt your neighbor was arrested for "screaming at them"... maybe if it was done in a drunken or drug fueled rage... or perhaps while brandishing a weapon of some sort.... however, minus some sort of fisticuffs.... I can't see them arresting him for screaming at your front office.
