Today, and for the last two weeks, my asshole landlord refuses to fix the hot water supply. My shower is now so cold that peeing on myself while washing is actually helping. I need a new place. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I found out my landlord is too cheap to turn up the hot water tank enough to have a comfortable shower. There's a huge padlock on the door, she won't budge, and I'm signed in until December. FML
Today, it's been a week and a half since our hot water stopped working. Our landlord said he'll get on to it "in 3 days", after having said this already a few days before. I have to wash myself with a bucket and boiled water. FML
Today, due to plumbing issues, I had to choose between a goosebump-inducing cold or skin-blistering hot shower. This is the 7th day in a row. My husband says it shouldn't be more than another week before he "gets it figured out". FML
Today, I went down to my accommodation office in fiery wrath, demanding that something be done about my three-days-cold shower. Looking dubious, they sent someone back with me. As soon as we got there he looked at me with deep pity and pulled the cord in the corner that activated the hot water. FML
Today, I found out my landlord has bought himself a new boat. He refuses to turn up the heating to save money. I'm freezing. FML
Today, my boiler packed up on me just as the weather has turned cold, with no money to have it fixed. Hello to a week of freezing cold showers. FML
Today, I’m showering at a local firehouse. Why? Because our shower is broken and my dad refuses to fix it, or get someone to fix it for us. It’s been a year and a half since I've showered in my own home. FML
Today, my water got cut off. The previous homeowners owed the water company over $300, and the company doesn't believe that I'm not them. The supervisor told me this will keep happening until I pay up. I need a shower. FML
Today, my landlord compared me to his idiot son for not plunging a toilet. This is the same toilet he explicitly told me not to plunge last week, because of a possible leak into the basement. We have been peeing outside for a week waiting on him. FML
Today, my landlord refused to send a plumber over to unclog the sink. Now he wants me to pay for water damages because he didn't call a plumber sooner. FML

what he's doing is illegal. I forget the department to call, but contact your local city hall and they'll point you in the right direction. good luck

It isn’t illegal since 2019 anymore I think

You are a moron. It will never not be illegal for a landlord to take responsibility and do the maintenance in apartments. That’s literally their job.

Hopefully this isn’t common enough in the Netherlands as I’m expecting to move there soon

I don’t know what the laws are in the Netherlands, but here in the US, that would violate the warranty of habitability. You would still have to pay your rent, but it could be paid to the county via escrow.

Here's a tip... do some research on Landlord/Tenant laws in your state. The landlord is required to keep the plumbing in working order. Your remedies MAY include: withholding all or part of rent until its fixed, or paying for it yourself and deducting it from rent. Send him a certified letter and keep a copy for yourself, AND email him. Then after the prescribed time listed in the statute, withold the rent or pay to have it done. You may also be entitled to break the lease without consequences. I stress though, check the statutes in your state, and MAKE SURE you know what you can legally do before you take steps. Most attorneys will do a free consultation, and might be willing to write a demand letter for a nominal fee.
