Today, I went to the Grand Canyon with my family. Also today, I found out that I have a crippling fear of heights. My family left me on a ledge hyperventilating and having a mental breakdown, while they hiked for another 2 hours. They won't stop telling me how pretty it was and what I missed. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was at an amusement park with my kids. When we were on the Ferris wheel, I discovered my fear of heights. I hyperventilated, screamed from our seat "LET ME OUT! OH GOD LET ME OUT!!" I also began crying hysterically. They stopped the ride for me to get off. I'm a 45 year old man. FML
Today, I tried to tackle my fear of heights by riding a rollercoaster. Once we were near the top, it malfunctioned, causing it to stop, and we all had to get out and climb back down. My girlfriend laughed at me for how scared I was. FML
Freaked out
Today, I went to an amusement park with my family and we all decided to ride the tallest rollercoaster. As soon as the ride got going, I realized I'd made a huge mistake and was too terrified to open my eyes. I spent the entire ride screaming, with my hands over my eyes, and afterwards my cousin called me a wuss. FML
Not cut out for this
Today, I took my girlfriend skydiving for her birthday. I insisted on joining her to make it a memory for us both, despite my fear of heights. I passed out twice mid-freefall and had to be saved by the instructor both times. FML
Nature sucks
Today, my friends convinced me to go on a "short" hike. Little did I know, they're actually all avid hikers, whilst I'm more of an "indoor enthusiast." I've now been climbing a never-ending hill for hours, hallucinating about my cozy couch, and praying for a miracle to deliver pizza to the summit. FML
Today, my mom and I made the bad decision to go hiking for some mother-daughter bonding even though we had little experience. My mother tumbled down a mountain named Tumbledown and I couldn't even enjoy the irony because I had to half carry her all the way back to the car. FML
Take a hike
Today, my family and I went on a hike to a local abandoned gold mine, with the hopes of being able to explore the caves. What we didn't expect was four miles of treacherous, rocky, near vertical trails that led to the mine. Once we finally got there, exhausted, it was blocked off for safety reasons. FML
Take a hike
Today, I went hiking with my family. A local had told us about the trail, saying the two mile walk would lead us to a seventy-foot waterfall. After seven miles of trekking in the sweltering sun with no food, we finally found the waterfall. It was barely ten feet tall. FML
Sensory deprivation
Today, I went to a theme park with my friends. I was excited to ride the rollercoasters, but just as we were about to get on the biggest one, I realized I'd had left my glasses in the car. I can't see shit without them, but I decided to go on the ride anyway. I spent the entire time screaming in terror while my friends laughed, while I couldn't see a thing. FML
City boy
Today, I went on a hike with friends, but as I'm the worst outdoorsperson because I rarely venture outside of the city, I ended up getting lost in some woods after straying from our group. I ended up having to call 911 to be rescued. My friends will absolutely not let me live this ordeal down. FML

That's just cruel.

Good money or not, one of them should have been a ******* good parent or sibling and stayed with her while the others moved on. Leaving someone hyperventilating is not safe at all.

LOL. ydi for being overdramatic. wether you are on a ledge or not you are still on the ground and have no reason to pull that crap.

I don't understand why people have to leave such mean comments... seriously. You don't know this person so you don't know how bad their fear of heights is and I am willing to bet a lot of you have never been to the Grand Canyon so you don't know how scary it could actually be for someone that is scared of heights.

read my comment. (60) i have been there. my sister has acrophobia. however, my sister isn't an attention *****.

What makes her an attention *****... because she posted it on here? Isn't that the point of the whole site? If you are complaining about people being attention ****** you should not be on this site.

Did you expect them to just say "screw it!" to their vacation and all sit up there with you, holding your hand and telling you it'll be OK? It makes more sense just to leave you up there where it's safe, where I'm sure you didn't have to stand right next to the ledge, and continue with their vacation. Sucks you missed it, but there's nothing they could have done to make you go with them anyway, so what are you bitching about?

OH and btw, she "found out" she had a fear of heights, so she clearly didn't really know about it or how serious it was until that day.
