Today, I went for bloodwork. It's routine for me, so I was ready for the nurse to put in the needle and take my blood. It went in fine, but right after, she slowly pulled the needle out, then wondered why the blood stopped. She then moved it back and forth in my arm while I panicked silently. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I decided to give blood for the second time. I felt excrutiating pain when she stuck the needle in my arm. Another nurse came running over in a panic. Apparently my inexperienced nurse had put it in my tendon instead of my vein. FML
Today, I had to get bloodwork done. I'm deathly afraid of needles. The whole lobby heard me scream as soon as the nurse said 'hello'. FML
Panic attack
Today, I went to donate blood for the first time. When they stuck the needle in my arm, I had a panic attack and begged that they take it out. The woman helping me told me she'd take it out in a moment and left. It was then that the Red Cross stole a pint of my blood while I had a panic attack. FML
Today, I went to get my blood drawn to see how far along I am pregnant. The lady stuck both my arms twice and then busted a vein in my right arm. She told me to come back tomorrow to try again. FML
Today, I went to a blood drive. The nurse taking my blood mentioned that she'd been called in on her day off, and she swore she wasn't drunk. I didn't know what to do, so I just smiled and blinked back tears as she savaged the vein in my arm. FML
Today, I tried to get over my childhood phobia of syringes by donating blood. The phlebotomist hadn't even touched the needle before I started sobbing hysterically. They made me leave. FML
Today, I went to get my blood drawn for the first time. After I explained to the nurse how nervous I was, she replied, "Oh honey, don't worry! This is my first time too!" FML
Panic!
Today, I was at the doctor and I had to get a fingerstick in the lab to get blood drawn. There was a 6 year-old boy waiting to go next. He was terrified. His mother told him to, "Watch this brave girl go first." I panicked and began to hyperventilate. The kid fainted. FML
Today, I needed to get blood drawn. Apparently, my veins are too thin and no blood would flow into the tube. I'm afraid of needles, and was just poked with some unsuccessfully, and I have to go back next week to try again. FML
Today, I got my annual blood test. The nurse was inexperienced and it took her several tries to insert the needle properly. When I get back home, my fiancé starts yelling at me and storms out. The reason? I am a recovering drug addict and my arm appeared as if I had been shooting up. FML

You're a trooper. I would've screamed like a little bitch. That sounds awfully painful, and this is coming from someone with 4 tattoos.

So what's the diagnosis? Undead zombie or vampire?

Ouch! Sorry OP! Hope she figured it all out eventually and that you are alright

I've had the exact same thing happen to me, it's scary how dumb some nurses are

Sorry to hear that OP. Hopefully you didn't suffer too much pain, if any at all.

I don't get how this has down votes.

Because clearly OP experienced pain.

It's not painful. There are no nerves under the skin. They're just being ridiculous and hysterical. Tattoos hurt more than that.

I've found tattoos more painful than blood tests. However that's pretty irrelevant I would honestly pass out if this happened to me. The thought of how nervous I would already be combined with the feeing of the needle moving around in your arm... I'd puke.

Never a pleasant experience. I'm sorry you had to go through that

#25 I have tried that before, now I'm a vampire. But luckily I can't be killed by wood or sunlight. I guess being a zombi has to do something with that.

Nobody deserves to have to go through that, they should make sure these nurses are competent before they inject needles of any kind into patients. Could you maybe file a complaint?
Lilkat39 5
stop being so ridiculous. file a complaint?! really?! guess what... happens all the time. all. the. time. why? because nothing is perfect, however much you would like it to be.

Honestly, this happens even to the most competent people. Sometimes a vein that looks and feels good collapses as soon as you start to draw blood, sometimes the tip of the needle is pushed against the side wall of the vein and needs to be wriggled a bit so blood can flow through. Sticking a patient more than two or three times is a faux pas, but it sounds like OP's nurse just tried to adjust the position of the needle and frightened OP by not explaining enough.

Couldn't have said it better myself, 27!

I've had so many blood tests and IV's in the same spot that my veins have scars. I tell the tech every time they take blood and they nod and pay no attention, then stick the needle into the scarred section and have to feel around before redoing it further down. It's nothing to do with their competency, more with their lack of edge case prediction.

You obviously don't know anything about healthcare

It happens more than you'd think. Sometimes veins collapse, sometimes you go in at slightly the wrong angle, or a little too far. You're working with a small veins, there's not much room for error. We don't like missing veins anymore than you like it.

I think the human pin cushion likes it slightly less than you.

Amen. The needle is in our arm. We feel it not you. Thank you for being concerned for us, but if you can get what you need quickly and then get the damn needle out even quicker, that be great.
theblondeone 16
In order for nurses and phlebotomists to make it to you, they have to practice many times on already trained personnel. Don't think we don't know your pain, I myself have some pretty bad horror stories with new techs.

I think this entire comments section misread the fml. It says the nurse put the needle in, took it out, then commented "my the blood stops flowing when I take the needle out.
