Today, I was vigorously putting primer on my canvas for a beginning painting class. I accidentally sprayed specks of primer on the very dark painting to the right of mine. The painter is in an advanced class. She's been working on this one all semester. There's no one to her right. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
No Bob Ross
Today, I joined a beginners' painting class to finally try a new hobby. I was doing fine until I went to rinse my brush, dunked my entire hand into a cup of blue paint water, then spent the rest of class with one blue hand and a painting that looked like a potato in a storm. The instructor said it had “character,” which I assume was out of sympathy. FML
Not respected anymore
Today, as a respected artist, I was running a workshop with a bunch of rowdy college kids. I was in the middle of demonstrating a painting technique when I accidentally washed my paintbrush in my coffee instead of my paint water. They waited until I then drank from it to burst out in hysterics. FML
It's all subjective
Today, I took my girlfriend to a beginners’ painting class. She and everyone else was able to produce a painting significantly better than mine, and I got laughed at for my lack of skill. I’ve been painting for twenty-five years. FML
Today, I finally finished my art project, which was worth 50% of my quarterly grade. I came in first period to give it to my professor. When she turned to look at it, her elbow hit her coffee and spilled it all over the canvas. I got 60%. She said I would have had a 100%, except for the giant coffee stain. FML
Mix and match
Today, I started to paint the top of a piece of furniture. My husband had painted the sides a few months ago. I sanded/prepped. He went to buy the paint he had used. I was half done when I stepped back and saw that the colors didn't match. He forgot what he used, so he bought whatever, and "thought it would be OK." FML
Thanks, I hate it
Today, I finished a painting I'd spent 3 weeks working on for an exhibition. When I came back from lunch, my cat was perched above it on my desk. He looked at me, then down at the painting, then jumped down onto it. He slipped and smeared the wet paint everywhere, ruining the whole thing. FML
Everyone's a critic
Today, I brought my best painting yet to college. I showed it off and everyone loved it. Or almost everyone. When we came back from lunch break, we found someone had sharpied the words "JIZZ BUTT" all over it. That painting took two weeks to finish. FML
Today, I was painting cabinets for the children's area in my church. While painting, I dropped my brush and got black paint on a white part. I tried to wipe it off. Now there's a very visible smudge that looks like a penis. FML
Classic
Today, I was working on a painting and went to take a sip of my tea. Instead, I took a swig of paint water. FML
Today, while painting a wall, I handed a bucket of paint up to my friend who was standing on the top rung of a ladder. She said she felt dizzy, and came crashing down on me, along with the paint on my head. FML

Last time I checked, that's why you don't "vigourously apply primer." ESPECIALLY around other peoples work. You were basically asking for an accident.

YDI, and FHL. You shouldn't have been "vigorously" putting on primer to the point where you're spraying it everywhere. Learn how to not act like a jackass in the studio, and until you do, stay the hell away from other people's work.

Maybe that's why you have 0 out of 8 confirmed FMLs.

Looks like the OP wanted to blame someone else for it. YDI

I feel like this is more like **** her Life..since you ruined her work. if you were smart you would have taken a rag and imminently dabbed the primer off..you probably could have saved her a helluva lot of grief. This is why I hate sharing studios with idiots.
artifactoid 0
um, artkid, if you're so brilliant and experienced, shouldn't you know that it could be oil paint on that canvas? If the OP rubbed it with a rag, she could have COMPLETELY ****** up the painting by blurring everything, instead of just throwing a few specks on it. The OP should be honest and upfront with the other artist. It sucks, but you should have been more careful and you have to take responsibility.

of course I'm aware of that, which is why I suggested they DAB the primer with a rag...not rub it. the corner of a cotton rag would have soaked up the majority of the primer before it had a chance to set on the oil paint. maybe you should read the what i said before mocking me.
vanillathirteen 0
artkid, would rubbing primer off a dry oilpaint be a smart thing to do or the equivalent of ruining it?
Chocolate_Chunk 2
vanilla, "I suggested they DAB the primer with a rag...not rub it", moron.

On the plus side, she can't be very good if it is taking more than a few minutes.

obviously you have no idea what your talking about. Art takes time.

You're stupid. How many years did the Mona Lisa take? 7. Oh wait! That was just for her LIPS.
kims0706 10
Actually 33- I'm pretty sure the Mona Lisa only took 3 years over all, but sorry if I'm wrong (I don't know that much about art) . Either way, I agree, true art takes time
sillystyle420 5
79 he was right It took 7 years for the lips and at least another 3 for the rest of it
sayyestothedress 24
So a decade to make Mona Lisa
Circles 18
The moms Lisa took 13 years all up. Not 3..
PackardBell_fml 19
You need to get a real education if you actually think the name of the painting is the "mom's Lisa". Uncultured swine.

vigorously? are you a twat or a retard? either way, I hope the artist either can fix it easily, or tears out your eyes.

Heh heh heh. I saw "jackass" and read "Jackson Pollock" the first time.

Well, considering her painting wouldn't have been close enough to mess up to begin with if it had been in a more appropriate place and the observation that you should've thought to move it or deal with your priming in a more appropriate spot, you both were rather negligent. Pathemata mathemata - learn it well.

Typically advanced students and beginners don't have class together, therefore I am assuming the advanced student's work was simply sitting on their easel where it was supposed to be. It was ENTIRELY the other person's fault for being reckless and ignorant.
tikimuppet 11
during the last quarter of last year, the "advanced" and "beginner" people shared a room on my course, though it ended up being the advanced people who caused the most trouble
reooay 0
I'm not an artist so my apologies if my question sounds ignorant but what exactly does the primer do and how does it affect her painting?
Mumblstiltskin 0
If you paint on a canvas that isn't primed the paint will just soak through because canvas is clothe. Primer acts as a barrier between the canvas and the paint. It's white and usually leaves huge streaks if you try to wipe it off.

Wow, a coherent, respectful exchange on the internet! Congrats, you two!
