Today, I was sternly told that if I didn't pass more students, I would be out of a job. I then went to my class to collect papers, and was stymied by how I could be giving passing grades to the 12 of 24 who didn't turn anything in. College students. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I was warned that I was failing too many students and it had to stop, so I showed my boss all of the easy assignments a lot of students didn't even turn in. She told me to stop using so many "big words" in them. I teach at a four year University. FML
Today, after telling a student that she had to take the online test on the date that I had assigned, she whined to the vice president of the college, who then told my dean that he needed to do something about it. She made me offer testing days on multiple dates. So much for integrity. FML
Today, my teacher walked into class and said, "Look to your left and right, one of those persons you just looked at will fail the upcoming exam." When asked why, she said too many people passed last year's exam. She was dead serious. FML
Today, I got the best grade in class on my economics midterm. Rather than tell me I did a good job, my professor criticized me in front of everyone about how I was working "too hard". FML
Today, I got cited for "internet plagiarism" and called to the dean's office. I'd been sitting a closed-book written exam, and my teacher had been breathing down my neck the whole time. FML
Today, I found out I've miserably failed a college exam. My friend had agreed to pass me answers if I needed them, since I've hardly studied this year. We were on the phone when she said, "Oh, those answers were bullshit. Serves you right, huh?" FML
Today, I was threatened to be held back because of the lack of teacher-parent communication. My parents refuse to sign my report card because of my one mark below ninety percent. My teacher was dead serious about failing me. FML
Today, I was kicked out of college for not attending a class I wasn't ever enrolled in. FML
Today, I went to college, where I'm studying for my dream job. Despite getting up at 5am to catch the earliest bus into town, I arrived ten minutes late. My professor knows my circumstances, but is still threatening to kick me off the course if I don't "arrive on time like everyone else." FML
Today, I walked into an exam after having stayed up 20 straight hours studying. The professor looked at me and muttered, "Don't bother, I'm failing you either way." FML

This is exactly why there is an education quality problem worldwide. Institutions are more worried about passing numbers than the quality of those being passed. FYL OP, as an educator, you deserve better students and more faculty support.

Document, Document, Document. Notes in your gradebook to the effect of "Assignment submitted 3 days late, -10% per day late" or "Assignment not submitted". It won't make the administration happy, but it will provide evidence for your wrongful termination suit that the failure to pass students isn't due to your actions.

This is weird, as a teacher myself, whenever I'm confronted by something like this from a superior, they're usually just uninformed about my class statistics, like how many assignments get handed in, who shows for tests etc. Couldn't you do the same? Or do I have to assume that this isn't a colleague or superior that mentioned this, but an entitled mother or father of the child you're teaching?

This is what's wrong with today's society, and why so many idiots are big CEOs making the big bucks when they don't know anything. How many people have posted on this very site saying they had to solve a problem for the big boss who makes four times what they do because they didn't know how to do it? Way too many to count. That school shouldn't be forcing you to pass students that don't deserve it. An employer wouldn't accept an unfinished assignment, so a teacher shouldn't, either. School and college is meant to prepare students for the real world, and letting them pass by doing nothing is doing the opposite. But then again, maybe they need that swift kick in the butt of reality to wake them up.
