Today, I was rejected from the University of Washington. My dad has been a professor there for 30 years, and is on the board of admissions. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML
Today, I received a rejection letter from a college that I'd applied to 6 years ago. FML
Today, I found out that my dad, thinking it was an advertisement, threw away a letter from the college I applied to. FML
Today, when taking a group picture with my closest friends, a passing parent congratulated us on getting into the same university for next year. She's wrong. They're all going to Cambridge, except for me. I was rejected. FML
Today, I got an offer to study at a good university. My father has been pushing me to apply for years, so I ecstatically broke the news. Instead of congratulating me, he just grunted and delivered the more important news that he's divorcing my mum. Moment ruined. FML
Today, I found out that I was denied for work study eligibility by my college. I went to my financial advisor to ask why. It wasn't my grades or attendance. Apparently my father makes too much money for me to get a job at the school. My dad was fired 3 months ago and has been out of work since. FML
Today, I got into my dream university. I also got turned down for the scholarship and the loan that would enable me to actually go. FML
Today, I got 3 different rejection letters mailed to me from the same college. FML
Today, I was walking with a friend to tell him how excited I was for college and even motivating him to apply for the same school, until I found out later that I got rejected. FML

That must be equally embarrassing for him.

Obviously you assumed you could just get in because your daddy works there and probably didn't try to do well in high school. Your loss.

Maybe the school just didn't think you met their standards. It shouldn't matter if you dad works there or not. I agree with #s 1, 5, and 21!

My brother got in ;) But he's ridiculously smart and will probably save the world. He's going to WWU, though-they have the programs he wants in the environment he wants. WWU is a good school, and so are a lot of schools in Washington. There's also other UW campuses that you could go to for a few years and then try and transfer (same with a community college). This sucks, but hopefully you had a safety or two.

Anyone who is calling the OP 'spoiled' or the like for expecting to get in because of her father's position is either an idiot, or so far removed from the college application process that it's... ridiculous. It's unfortunate, but often things like connections, financial standing, or ethnic background matter much more than academic performance, particularly if you're an average student. The process is royally ****** up, and anything but straightforward. IE: I know a girl who was not a good student, but because her father went to GW and was very wealthy, they let her in. And when her boyfriend got rejected, a phone call was made and *he* got in.

People are saying she's spoiled because she mentioned that her dad is part of the admission's board. It seems she was expecting to get in based purely on that fact.

Uhmm someone's stupid. I agree, this isn't an FML, you should've tried harder and not relied on your dad. A friend of mine got rejected from UVA and his dad was HEAD of admissions and he got straight a's. So HAH! You need to shut up and stop bitching.

Your dad just doesn't want you to see how much ass he gets from students who need a good grade, obv. Good play on his part.
