Today, I was loving on a dog at work. I noticed her fur was coarse and short and I'd never felt anything like it before. I broke out in hives all over my face. This happens whenever I'm around any cats, guinea pigs, or rabbits and now some dogs apparently. I'm in school to be a vet tech. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I went to the allergist. I found out that I am allergic to dogs, cats, wool, fleece, and pet dander. I'm currently planning to go to school to become a veterinarian. FML
Today, after 3 years of studying to be a veterinarian, I found out I may not be able to continue. It's not because I'm failing my classes, but because my body has developed an allergy to cats. FML
Contagion
Today, while working as a veterinary assistant, an owner stood extremely close to me and kept accidentally petting me instead of her dog. After her dog was examined, she asked me if I'd ever had the chickenpox because she has shingles and it's contagious to those who haven't. I haven't. FML
Do not come
Today, I visited my doctor upon coming home from University. I found out that I'm severely allergic to our pet bunny, which has resulted in a rash taking over my body. She suggested that we get rid of the bunny. I told my mom. She told me to come home less often. FML
Today, it was my first day working at a dog boarding kennel. I got bit... by my coworker. FML
Ouchies
Today, I pulled a bee off of my friend's dog because we were worried he could be allergic. Of course I got stung, and of course the dog wasn't allergic. Turns out I am. FML
Today, I took my dog back to the vet because her face was completely swollen and her stomach was bright red and blotchy. It's obviously the medication she just started, but my vet doesn't believe dogs have allergic reactions. It's the only vet in the area. FML
Waterworks
Today, I took an allergy skin test and turns out I’m allergic to dogs. Three weeks ago, I adopted a new puppy to help with my depression, but within a few days I was coughing, sneezing, and having watery eyes. I’ve previously had a dog for 10 years and I was never allergic to it. I don’t wanna give the new one up. FML
Itchy and scratchy
Today, I went to meet my boyfriend's parents for the first time. While I was there, I started to get really itchy. Turns out they have 5 cats. Guess what I'm allergic to? FML
Bad boy
Today, I was working with some shelter puppies transporting them to the vet's. I got all of the puppies in but one, and when I went to pull him out, I realized he had gotten car sick. Before I could stop it happening, he wagged his vomit-covered tail and hit me in the face. FML

You could look into specialising in birds, reptiles, amphibians or fish. You do get specific sanctuaries for one type of animal like birds of prey or reptiles and they do need vets and vet tech. You don't have to give up on working with all animals.

This sounds like a way more intimate contact than I thought would be necessary for a vet tech. However, maybe you should overthink your choice of profession and choose a different field.

I was a pretty brilliant phlebotomist and knew all the tests, all the different draw methods, I could do it painlessly. People loved me. And of course I aced my coursework and practicum. I'm allergic to the damned latex gloves and went into shock drawing a patient, and by the time it was more commonplace to use vinyl, I got a job that pays more! I had to rebuild and adapt that all the time I spent on phlebotomy was basically worthless. You may want to work only with birds/reptiles/fish.

"Loving on a dog"? I hope it was consensual.

Vets /vet techs who work with horses are in high demand and well paid.

there is a woeful lack of veterinarians that work with less traditionally cute animals. I have basically had to learn to provide nearly clinic level care for my reptiles and I'm not the only one. use this as an opportunity to do a serious good in the world. take on birds, amphibians, reptiles, and other exotic pets and you may find a surprising demand for the specialization if you get a good reputation out there.

I had to re-read the first sentence, because "I was loving on a dog at work" just sounds wrong. :O
