Today, I was fiddling around with the thermostat at my new place. For a laugh, I twisted the knob all the way to 40° Celsius, when it snapped off. I don't have a clue how to fix it. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Shocking!
Today, in an attempt to be frugal, I tried to repair my own sometimes-faulty toaster. Turns out I unplugged the wrong kitchen appliance, which I only discovered by electrocuting myself while pulling it apart. Now it's definitely broken, will need replacing, and I have a burn. FML
Now we're cooking
Today, I replaced the broken hot plates in my stove, only to realize that something else is broken, and it's still is not usable. I had to change it all back before I could even heat dinner. This was after I had carried the thing up and down the stairs by myself, and spent an entire afternoon cleaning it. FML
Today, after repairing the toilet, the light, the shower, the cooker and the heater in the flat I've just moved into, my boiler dies. It's mid December, about 1 degree outside. FML
Headshot
Today, I was taking a shower for the first time in my new apartment. The shower head broke off the wall and slammed onto my head, while spraying water everywhere. I tried to stop the water, but only stopped the cold and got burnt by the hot. FML
Today, my heating broke. It's 22 degrees outside, and my father won't let us call someone to fix it because apparently the cold helps the soul grow. FML
Today, my doorknob broke. While trying to impress my dad and show that I can fix things for girls, I somehow managed to lock myself in my room, with the doorknob on the other side of the door. When my dad finally heard my screams, he let me out. He had to take the whole door off. FML
Drama!
Today, I tried to make a dramatic exit after arguing with my flatmate. I slammed the door, but the handle broke, and I had to ask him for help to fix it. FML
Knackered
Today, I was very cold and tired, so I took a shower to warm up and went to bed. The minute I hopped into bed, it collapsed and broke. I have spent half-an-hour rearranging furniture to get the mattress on to the floor. Now I'm cold again. FML
It's not funny, mate
Today, I wanted nothing more than to go home and get into bed. While I was unlocking my front door, the flimsy key snapped off inside the lock. A locksmith was called out, who did nothing but sadistically guffaw at my misfortune and crack sarcastic jokes as he undid the lock. FML
Today, my furnace and all of my heating systems broke down. A fridge is 3 degrees Celsius; it is now 2 degrees Celsius in my house. I would be warmer in my fridge. FML

Well the thermostat sure as hell isn't, it just got its knob twisted right off
Futacy 30
^ Lol, nice one xD

I hope the thermostat grows legs and arms, gets up in the night, and twists YOUR knob off while you're sleeping.

I bet you thought you were cool, but seriously OP don't sweat it. (sorry, had to do it; first intended puns on fml)
Inheritance 10
You do realize that's 129-130 degrees Fahrenheit right?
sonny234 0
104
Inheritance 10
160; Celsius to Fahrenheit is (x)C + 32 x1.8

FML. One of the few places you can insult someone and give them advice in the same sentence.

That was actually two sentences.

54- and while he's at it, fill the water with food coloring. Dye the whole house blue or some shit. Innovation by destruction, it's a new thing, it kinda actually sounds cool.

54- took that a little bit too far..

Hey New Zealand is headed for summer though. Maybe try using a bobby pin or knife to reach the dial
JiggaJayZ 16
Oh.. 40°C.. Not 40°F.. Whoops
Codezlol 21
Probably don't want to put those things anywhere near something with an electrical current lol...
slimjim8094 12
Thermostats are (almost all) low voltage wiring. It only signals the system to turn on rather than carrying the power to do so. You can replace one yourself, it's just a few wires. But electricity isn't something to play with; get an electrician if you don't know what you're doing.
Oblivious_Mom 1
Also 153 if you mess with any wiring in your house it voids your insurance
Codezlol 21
167- well yes and no. I wired in my entire basement, you just have to do it by code, codebooks can be bought at several different home hardware type stores. It has to be done by code and inspected, if the inspector doesn't like what he sees he will make you rip it out and get it done professionally.

It's spring in New Zealand.

...and summer's not too far away.
FlyMeAway 2
Sounds like you're in hot water.
hopsinlove17 26
I really don't think this applies.
FlyMeAway 2
I thought it was kind of funny. Since 40 degrees Celsius is around 70 something degrees Farenheight, if I'm not wrong. Hot water is used as a synonym for trouble, and if I were OP I would be in trouble, breaking a thermostat. Whether or not if the trouble was inflicted by someone else (I.e landlord, roommate, parents) or inflicted by myself.
TheMathMajor 26
I think 40 C is closer to 100 F
FlyMeAway 2
My bad, I was way off in temperature. Apparently it's a little over 100 degrees. My friend told me approximately 70.
YouFailForLife 7
it's actually 129.6 Fahrenheit, if you're rounding up, 130 degrees. For a rough estimation of C to F you can do (C+32) multiplied by 2. in this case, 40+32=72 x 2= 144 which is off by 14.4 degrees. For the actual degrees in F you do (C+32) multiplied by 9/5 Hope someone somewhere learned something today.
loopsy_fml 14
81- I did!
DocBastard 40
YouFailForLife - Your username is completely appropriate. 40 Celsius is equal to 104 Fahrenheit. I hope YOU learned something today.

Why does a thermostat even go that high?
xXHollowIchigoXx 17
#114 For Winter... But in all seriousness, who finds it fun to play with a thermostat? I can imagine you'd have fun playing with the stove as well...
Astroman129 7
The formula is not (9c+32)/5, it's (9/5)c+32. It's actually 104 degrees Celsius.
onlychildFTW 34
No. A hot house.
YouFailForLife 7
@113 ahh, thats embarrassing. I did it backwards, 40+32 x 1.8 ._. Thanks for that catch, I probably would have went on converting it incorrectly for a while. +1 to you sir
1Kiki_babe1 2
#114, Who the **** wants their house to be 104 degrees F? Even in the winter.
