Today, I spent 3 hours making a birthday card for my boyfriend, delicately cutting each letter out of printed coloured paper. He used it as a coffee coaster. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend came over to celebrate our anniversary. He had a card written in crayon with my name spelled wrong, and a basket I had seen his mother throw in the trash filled with flower petals ripped from my mom's garden. Our anniversary was 3 days ago. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me a card for my birthday and told me to open it 10 minutes after he'd gone; I waited for 5. In the card was written, "It's not working out, but here's $20." FML
Today, my boyfriend came to visit me for my birthday. Over dinner he handed me a blank card that had the words "I love you" hastily written on it. When the waiter came to take our order he informed him that we'd be paying separately. Happy Birthday. FML
Today, I wrapped my boyfriend's Christmas presents for him, because he was too lazy to do it himself. This included my own present. FML
Thanks, I guess…
Today, it was my birthday and everyone in the office chipped in to buy me a card, and nothing but a card. It had a pre-written message on it and a space to write "Love, *insert name*" where everyone signed their names. The "Love" was crossed out and replaced with "From". FML
Today, I had an art class with my girlfriend. The teacher assigned "anti-cards", or cards for unusual or bad occasions. My girlfriend decided to make a "break-up" card, and I helped her write the poem inside it. After class, she gave it to me. FML
Today, I wrote a song for my boyfriend on paper. The first thing he did was correct my grammar. FML
Today, I spent hours hand-painting an awesome design on a gift for a friend. My husband was supposed to assemble it when I finished, but when I stepped back to admire my work, he informed me that the whole thing was sideways. He watched me paint it. FML
Today, it's my birthday. My boyfriend didn't get me a present. He did, however, get me a card from our cat. He signed it "Have a purrrrfect birthday." Then he left to go to work. I was alone all day long. FML
It's the thought that counts…
Today, I wrote my boyfriend a poem, and left it on the bed with a rose for him to see after work. When I came home later, I noticed the flower in the trash, and the poem had been used as gum wrapper. FML

When someone does that kind of shit with stuff I make, I stop caring about getting them anything special. Next time just grab a card and sign it, since he doesn't seem to care. By the way, don't print out colored paper just to cut out. Go out and buy construction paper, it's cheaper.

What a jerk. Even if he's not into the sentimentality of cards or whatever, he should at least show some appreciation for you and your effort.

Well I think your bf should dump you for being an overreacting b***** that actually took her time to go on FML and write about how your boyfriend used your card as a coffee coaster and then think its the end of her life...wtf

That does suck. I can't imagine spending 3 hours on a card though, that is a bit much. I can sympathize though. One time I wrote a poem for my boyfriend, designed a graphic to go with it, printed it out, and framed it. When I gave it to him, the first thing he did was point out the fact that I had put it in the frame crooked.

When I get cards and such of my girlfriend I do pretty much the same but if it was hand made and I could see that she had made it herself then I guess I would take care of it or actually display it somewhere.

that sucks, but guys never appreciate stuff like that, it doesn't mean he doesn't care about you

Men can be such douchebags sometimes. What the hell happened to romance? Yes making a card shows sentiment and thought! Seriously FYL & FML coz there just aint any "good" guys left in the world to appreciate the simple things. Dude even if you hate the card, have some consideration that it was made especially for you. Throw it away later on, not when you just get it! FTW

While it was a really sweet gesture to make him that nice of a card, what else is he supposed to do with it? I guess he could've hung it up on the fridge or a bulletin board or something...

Well she probably thought that making something herself would be more personal and meaningful than buying a useless gift... I know how you feel girl...I'm paying for college myself so most of the time I'm broke...when my hubby and I were just dating, I once wanted to send him a card for his birthday at least. He's American, I'm German and I couldn't find a good birthday card in English over here. So bought a German one, copied it by hand (!) with the writing translated in English...cut the English copy up as a puzzle and put it into the German card and sent it to him...he never did the puzzle so he obviously didn't even care what the card said. Sure it's not the end of the world or I wouldn't have married that guy...but it does hurt if you don't only put effort into something, but also some T-H-O-U-G-H-T and then it's not appreciated. I kindly told him not to ever expect any special gifts from me ever again and never in my life will I get him a card again. Made him feel like shit when I brought it up so directly and he felt bad for it. Talk to him and tell him that it hurt your feelings. Most likely he didn't even think about it...and if you don't tell him he'll never know...communication is the key to any successful relationship.

The guy's obviously in desperate need of coasters! If you haven't kicked him to the curb by then, this Sweetest's Day, get him a cheapassed set of coasters.
