Today, I saw a girl texting at school. I told her she might want to put her phone away before she got a detention. She turned around and I saw she was changing her insulin level on her pump. She has diabetes. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at physical therapy, the girl next to me had a blue armband. I said, "Hey, sweet iPod". She said, "Actually, I have diabetes." FML
Today, at school, I got stuck in the elevator and was about to panic before I remembered I had my phone. I called my mother and she called the school to tell them that I was stuck. They got me out in a few minutes and then confiscated my phone and gave me two detentions for using it in school. FML
Plagiarism sucks
Today, I was supposed to present a speech on diabetes. The girl who went first chose the same subject, knowing I'm diabetic and that it was my topic. I went last, so I had to change half of my speech on the spot. I sounded ignorant about my own illness. FML
TMI
Today, since I needed someone to talk to about it, I told my girlfriend how my dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. My girlfriend's mother then told me, in graphic detail, how her father's diabetes led to his toes being hacked off. FML
Don't mess with gamers
Today, after receiving the third call this week from teachers about my son falling asleep in class, I decided that it would be a good idea to hide his Xbox controllers. He decided it would be a good idea to hide my diabetes medication. FML
Nice try
Today, this girl I've been talking to texted me, saying she was going to visit. Trying to be sweet, I bought her $50 worth of chocolate and a cute card. Turns out she meant to send that text to her ex. Seems like the only thing I'll get from this relationship is diabetes. FML
Thanks for nothing
Today, my mother-in-law came over. Probably thinking that the needles in our fridge were steroids, and wanting to do the right thing, she took them to throw them away. I'm diabetic, and they were my insulin. I went into shock after she left and had to go to the hospital. FML
Please, apologize
Today, my teacher yelled at me for using my phone in class. I apologized out loud, knowing that it would help me get off easier. She was yelling at somebody else. FML
Method acting
Today, I was working as a stagehand for one of my college classes. I’m diabetic and can’t go without food for more than a few hours. I was told that if I left early, ate anything backstage, or passed out, I would fail the class. I passed out. FML
One a day, so they say
Today, I went into an exam room to do a check-up on one of my patients. I told the little girl's mother that she needed her flu shots. When the girl heard this, she took an apple out of her pocket and threw it at me. FML

An "Oh sorry" would have ended this drama.

I am guilty of the exact same thing. A friend of mine has diabetes. Once, we were at Subway and he pulled out his insulin pump to check it. I said, "Oooh, nice mp3 player." "That's his insulin pump." "It's my insulin pump." "OH CRAP." It was hilarious. Though it doesn't hold a candle to the time a friend of mine said to a person with horrible burns on their face, "Nice face paint."

Haha, I'm a diabetic with a pump and people do this to me constantly. Usually it's funny to hear the things people think it is... but when teachers go to rip your "cell phone" out of your hands and tear out your site ITS NOT FUNNY! Agreeing with everyone, stop being too nosey, but it is a bit humerous when people say these things.

haha, yes there's a girl with an insulin pump at my school, and she DID text a lot in the class we had together, and since her pump emits a high frequency beep every now and then, I assumed it was one of those young-ear ring tones for a while.

You are not allowed to use your cell phone even in hallways and such? Or she was doing it during the class?

Okay. some people need to chill out with these comments. First of all, the person was nice about and looking out for the girl's best interests. It's not like they were a jerk about it. Second of all, it's kcd said they were a teacher and that is part of their job. Finally, unless you were there, who are you to tell kcd that they should mind their own business?

So you can't tell the difference between a flash, slimmer, color-screened, dozen+ buttoned cellphone and a 2-4 buttoned, smaller but bulky insulin meter with a smaller mono-colored screen?

Not a big deal--and, everyone who thinks it's impossible to confuse an insulin pump with something else--mine's been called everything from a pager to an mp3 player. People just assume when they see you with something like that--it'd be a bit off if they stared long enough to figure it all the way out. Shit happens.....
