Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Thanks ma
Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML
Today, I was accepted to college and received a scholarship equal to almost half the tuition. After sharing this news with my parents, I spent the next 35 minutes getting yelled at about how I wasn't allowed to go there because my boyfriend might go there. FML
Can't afford this shit
Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML
Today, I got an offer to study at a good university. My father has been pushing me to apply for years, so I ecstatically broke the news. Instead of congratulating me, he just grunted and delivered the more important news that he's divorcing my mum. Moment ruined. FML
Overjoyed
Today, I got a letter from Yale Law School saying I got a 4 year full scholarship. I called my dad crying and read the whole thing… even the bottom of the letter, which said, "April fools' ! Love, Mom and Dad." FML
Today, I attended my school's special invitation-only awards ceremony, relieved that I was getting a much-needed scholarship. I watched all my friends go up and win scholarships. In the end, I only got a certificate for doing well on the PSAT. My whole family showed up for this. FML
We don't need no education
Today, I received a call from a top-rated university accepting me into the program of my dreams to begin my ultimate career. Two weeks ago, I accepted a permanent, full time and legally-binding job position in my depressive hometown because the school had previously rejected me. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, I got into my dream university. I also got turned down for the scholarship and the loan that would enable me to actually go. FML

Geez, what crawled up his butt and died? Does he normally show support OP or does he not? If he doesn't then maybe you should have figured he'd respond this way? Be proud you did so well! Go celebrate with your friends instead! Many congratulations! :D

It seems he doesn't value education very high. Time to high-tail out of there, maybe not burn all those bridges, but there's nothing there for you anymore. Leave, it's the best solution for all of you. And congratulations on the university! (PS: I know exactly how you feel!)

I have a great dad who even today would do anything to help me or his granddaughter, and I would do the same for him. I sure as hell won't treat my daughter like the OP's POS dad. If your idea of parenting is all about getting your children out of the house as quickly as possible, then learn to use birth control.

well, Shakespeare did say that expectations are the root of all heartache, just don't expect anything from anyone and your life will be much easier .. congratulations, I wish you the best in life :)

Congratulations. I know that what he said right now and im sure its not the first off the wall Shitty parenting skills he has practiced but that will make you a stronger parent if not decide to have children.

Sorry that's awful. Maybe he's jealous that his life didn't turn out that way, or that he didn't get many opportunities. Either way you deserve to go to that school, so don't let him get you down! He's being an ass wipe.

Congrats!! I know you tried hard for everything, and you deserve the great opportunity. You will 'get the hell out of his house' anyway if you go to college, so don't ever get bothered by your dad. Spend your summer with study abroad, internship, summer classes, volunteering, experience, etc, so you won't need to spend summer with your dad.... Wish my best for your future. Going to the prestigious college doesn't guarantee a good life, but it sure give a great education, and opportunities - you will do a great job!
