Today, I received a birthday card from my dad, over a week late. It was addressed to me using my maiden name, the enclosed check also made out to me using my maiden name. I've been married for over 10 years. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got a birthday card in the mail from my aunt. I got all excited when I saw a cheque inside, but the cheque was addressed to the wrong name. Not only did my own aunt forget my name, I couldn't even bank the $60. FML
Today, I got a birthday card from my parents. It was my sister's from earlier in the year. They scratched out her name and wrote mine underneath. FML
Today, I got an invitation in the mail for my dad's third wedding. My first name was misspelled on the envelope. FML
Today, my Dad gave me my birthday card. The envelope was blank, as was the card, and the £0.25 price tag was still on. He was fully aware of all these things, but handed it to me and said, "By the way, I didn't write anything." Happy birthday to me. FML
Happy birthday?
Today, I picked up a birthday card for my dad at the supermarket in a mad rush. I didn’t realise that the inside said “From your daughter”. He thinks this was my way of coming out as trans, and said that he'd suspected it for years. FML
Love is in the air
Today, for my birthday, my husband gave me a dress he stole from my wardrobe. It was the one I'd bought myself on my last birthday because he forgot to buy me anything, and gave me cash in a brown envelope. Not a birthday card, a brown envelope. FML
Today, my wife put divorce papers in my birthday card. FML
Bad timing
Today, after I filed for divorce, the papers were received by my soon-to-be ex-husband on our wedding anniversary. FML
Happy birthday anyway!
Today, I received a short happy birthday message from my father. He’s never been one to show affection, and I haven’t spoken to him in months since he only reaches out to ask for money. This might have given me hope that he cares or wants a relationship with me. Except… it’s not my birthday, and I don’t think he knows that. FML
Thanks, I guess…
Today, it was my birthday and everyone in the office chipped in to buy me a card, and nothing but a card. It had a pre-written message on it and a space to write "Love, *insert name*" where everyone signed their names. The "Love" was crossed out and replaced with "From". FML

A) at least he sent you one; B) your maiden name is likely his last name and that probably means a lot to him; C) at least you have a dad. D) all of that is bullshit reasoning and really that's kind of shitty of him.

Create a fake identity in your maiden name in order to receive this money

Her maiden name is still her name, she doesn't need to create any identity to get the money.

You have some options: 1: Divorce your husband and revert to your maiden name. 2: Legally change your name 3: Jump in your handy dandy time machine and go back ten years. 4: Set fire to the check and cut off all contact with your father. 5: Laugh it off and don't overthink it. I suggest number 3.

I think you can actually still receive the money if it's your maiden name.

At least you got money

I'm sorry about that, OP. Does he have a problem with the marraige or something? If he still uses your maiden name after ten years. then it might be time to talk to him when you have the chance (if you haven't talked to him already)

Maybe he was remembering your younger self while writing your name and accidentally wrote it

Eh, parents forget sometimes, especially as they get older.

Could be a medical issue. Perhaps he is exhibiting signs of dementia. I would talk with him to see if he is ok. In any event, Happy Birthday OP!

I was thinking the same thing. Could be a sign.

it may be he doesn't want it to go to you and your husband but wants it just for you. my dad does the same thing. he gives me money and days don't tell (my husband) it's a dad gift haha.

If your husband is so controlling that he can't find out about gifts to you from your father, that's an unhealthy marriage.

I don't think it would be about the husband being controlling... more of the dad wanting to be like "here, actually buy yourself something because you deserve it, don't just put it towards bills." Giving it to just the daughter/wife gives it a chance to be an actual gift, not a little extra money for necessities.

If my mom or dad gave me money, I'd buy or do something nice for myself. I'd still tell my girlfriend about it, though. No reason to be secretive unless you either already have, or are trying to cause, money issues in your relationship.

#12, my dh is far from controlling. #28, not that it would be used for bills but more I'd spend it on my kids before I'd spend it on me. and my dad wasn't around for 13yrs of my life, from when I was 12-25, so now he says he calls it a dad gift cuz he's here and can give it to me. didn't think my comment would be taken the wrong way actually.

This has happened to me before. just take your marriage license (and current ss card)to the bank as proof of name change and they will cash it.
