Today, I picked up a birthday card for my dad at the supermarket in a mad rush. I didn’t realise that the inside said “From your daughter”. He thinks this was my way of coming out as trans, and said that he'd suspected it for years. FML

Today, my Dad gave me my birthday card. The envelope was blank, as was the card, and the £0.25 price tag was still on. He was fully aware of all these things, but handed it to me and said, "By the way, I didn't write anything." Happy birthday to me. FML
Today, I received a short happy birthday message from my father. He’s never been one to show affection, and I haven’t spoken to him in months since he only reaches out to ask for money. This might have given me hope that he cares or wants a relationship with me. Except… it’s not my birthday, and I don’t think he knows that. FML
Today, I found out that the person sending me secret love letters was actually my dad, who felt sorry for me. FML
Today, I received a birthday card from my dad, over a week late. It was addressed to me using my maiden name, the enclosed check also made out to me using my maiden name. I've been married for over 10 years. FML
Today, my father contacted me for the first time in years to ask about my upcoming wedding, and possibly walking me down the aisle. He claimed the only reason he left was because he thought I'd be gay. I am. FML
Today, my dad came to my 8-year-old daughter's birthday party wearing a shirt that said "Small penis, huge dick." FML
Today, I bought a birthday card, wrote a long message, then sealed the envelope. At the party, I handed it over and immediately noticed the name on the front. I'd bought two cards at the same time and given her the one meant for someone else, my secret crush. I fled as soon as I could. FML
Today, my dad found the Father's Day present that I spent at least ten hours preparing and decorating. I'd expected him to be extremely happy about this lovely gift. His only reaction was to ask if he could exchange it for something else. FML
Today, I got my first period. My dad bought me a card and had everyone in my family sign it. FML
Today, my dad seemed moody, so to lift his spirits, I told him I loved him. He just snorted, "You gay or something, boy?" Really mature, dad, really mature. FML

You should just go along with it and send him pictures of drag queens saying that is you in make up. Tell him you tape your willy back and all that also. Maybe buy some women’s underwear to leave out around the house with your name written in the back. Just have fun with it.

It’s either he thinks you’re trans or you’re so thoughtless and careless, that you couldn’t put the slightest effort into selecting and appropriate card. Between the two, I’d go with trans, Caitlyn.

Huh...well, if nothing else you gave me an interesting idea for how to come out as trans to people. Though birthday might be a bit too situational...what card-giving event would it be best to come out during?

Look on the positive side. Your dad thought it easier to believe that you are transgender than it was to believe that you didn't put any thought into your card choice. He sees you as more sentimental than you are.
