Today, I realized I can't afford to break up with my boyfriend of 2 years, as we split the rent. I'll need a second job just to get out of my bad relationship. FML

OP here. I can't live with a roommate, did that for 4 years and learned a lot about what happens when your roomie doesn't come up with their half of the rent, and lost way too many friends that way. It would be worse than what I'm dealing with now. Our apartment is already the cheapest in town, I don't have parents or friends to move in with. The bright side is, my boyfriend is NOT abusive. And to the nasty comments that say YDI for using him for money, I clearly stated we split the rent.

Find a share with a roommate. There are plenty of available rooms if you look for them.

You can still break up, maybe sit down with him and talk about your relationship, and how things have changed from when you started dating, you may be surprised he might even feel the same way, and you can figure out the best way to end your relationship amicably. And even have enough time to figure out your living arrangements.

This is another reason why people shouldn't live together before marriage. And if you MUST, be smart about it. Never get a place one of you could afford alone so this isn't an issue.

I agree with everything but your first sentence. If OP had married this dude before finding out she couldn't live with him, she'd have two legal contracts to worry about breaking: the lease and her marriage. I'm of the opinion that it's best to find out if you and the other person are compatible long-term and in close quarters before you make what could be a very expensive mistake.

Yeah, sorry, no. I will NEVER marry anyone I haven't lived with first. It's a great way to see your partner's true colours and hopefully see if you two can make a marriage work. Marrying someone before seeing how they live is ******* bizarre and asking for issues.

This is especially bad if both your names are on the lease, because it traps both of you financially. OP, I suggest finding out how much notice you need to give and leaving if the relationship is bad.

The op makes it sound like the boyfriend has to move. If your breaking up with him, you should move out. Why force it on him? Also atleast lwt him know ahead of time so he has time to find a new apartment or a new roommate..

So you're using him for his money? You deserve it if that's what you're doing

Where there's a will there's a way. If it's really thar bad, anything is better, even a couch at a friends. When my husband and I split, I had no job, no money and two kids. I figured it out because I wanted out bad enough. Every one has choices.

When I left my ex I had a 1 and a half year old child, no car, no money or job. I was lucky enough to move in with my dad for a few months to get back on my feet. Anyway, my point is there is always a way. Try to cut back spending for a few months to put down a damage deposit on a less expensive place.

I was in the same situation. Had to live with my ex for a year and a half until I could afford to move out because he was unemployed.

60, How couldn't you afford it if he's unemployed? Lol
