Today, I rang my dad to tell him and my half-sister that I'm finally engaged. I then asked my half-sister to tell my stepmother. Still on speaker, I heard her run upstairs and pass the good news on. My stepmother responded with 'Cery who?', followed by 'So what? I can't stand her'. I'm Cery. FML

Today, I went to my fiancé's mother's funeral. His step-sister proudly announced that she's pregnant with his baby and they are engaged. FML
Today, my father told all of us that he eloped with his girlfriend of two months. I'm engaged to the woman's daughter, and have been engaged since before they met, but now my family is making fun of me for marrying my "sister". FML
Today, I called my mother to tell her that I got engaged. In the 15 minute conversation that followed, 13 were spent listening to how this is going to affect her. FML
Today, I got engaged. I called my mom and told her. "You didn't say yes, did you?" she said. Afterwards, I told my dad. "Uh, Congratulations. But, I have questions." Thanks guys. FML
Today, I got my first big promotion at work. Excited, I shared the news with my parents. My mom responded with, "That’s nice, dear, but your sister just got engaged," and hung up to go back to celebrating with her. FML
Today, I got engaged to the most wonderful man in the world. I excitedly called my mom to tell her the great news, thinking she'd be excited too. Her only response? "Oh." FML
Today, a girl confessed that she's loved me for years and wants to marry me and have my children. It was my half-sister and she said it in front of everyone at a family wedding. I don't know who to be most afraid of at this point: her fiancé or my stepdad. FML
Today, I discovered that my father is getting married. Overjoyed and confused because I didn't know he was dating, I called him up to congratulate him, and ask who she was. Apparently, his soon to be fiancée is my mother-in-law. My wife is not happy. FML
Today, I met my mom's fiancé. He's a nice guy, he's also my wife's dad. I'll soon call my wife my sister. FML
Today, my step-sister told me that she was getting married to her girlfriend next summer. At a big family brunch, I made a toast to their marriage. I didn't know that my step-mom didn't know they were dating in the first place, or that she was severely homophobic. FML

So you can have a little grown-up time every now and then. Even if the stepmom still doesn't like Cery then, she most likely would have the common decency not to bad-mouth her to the child. If she doesn't, well, then she's a psycho and Cery shouldn't let her babysit.

You may be right, but I just want Cery to confirm this before we all take her side. Other times, stepmoms bend over backwards to win the affection of the stepkids, and it is the kids who ruin it out of some loyalty to their birth moms.

Or it could be that she didn't do anything to her step- mother at all. Maybe the step-mom is jealous of Cery's relationship with her father. Maybe she looks like her mom, and she's feeling salty about that for any number of reasons. Maybe Cery is prettier than her own daughter, and she's jealous for her daughter's sake. It could even be that she suspects her husband favors her over her half-sister. Who knows? It could be worth talking it out to get to the real issue. If she honestly just dislikes you, OP, then say "screw her" and move on. You've got a wedding to plan!
