Today, I opened up my laptop to replace a faulty chip inside, which took me half an hour. When I closed it all up again, I saw the replacement part in its packaging on my desk. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Safe and sound
Today, I was expecting new computer parts so I can upgrade my hardware. I was hoping they would get here before I had to leave for work, but they showed up half an hour after my shift started. Now I have $700 worth of computer hardware sitting on my porch for my whole shift. FML
How to dismantle flat pack furniture
Today, I spent hours assembling a bookshelf I'd bought online. Once it was finally done, I realized I’d put the back panel on backwards, so now there’s a "Made in China" label facing the room. FML
Today, I took the motherboard out of my computer so I could put more RAM and a new video card in. While I was in the bathroom my mom threw it all out because it 'looked like garbage'. FML
Now we're cooking
Today, I replaced the broken hot plates in my stove, only to realize that something else is broken, and it's still is not usable. I had to change it all back before I could even heat dinner. This was after I had carried the thing up and down the stairs by myself, and spent an entire afternoon cleaning it. FML
Brain fart
Today, the speakers on my laptop weren't working. I worried I'd broken something, and started freaking out. I restarted my computer numerous times and played with the settings for an hour before calling my sister in to help. She looked at it for two seconds, then unplugged my headphones. FML
Thud
Today, I got home after a long day and collapsed onto my bed… forgetting I'd left my laptop open on it. Now I have an expensive, broken pillow. FML
Bricked
Today, I blew out the dust from my GPU, and when I went to reinstall it, it turned out that I had inadvertently shorted something and now it's dead. FML
It's complicated
Today, I was at work at an office store. I was instructed to put together several tape-free cardboard boxes. I then realized that I can disassemble and reassemble a computer with my eyes closed and one hand behind my back, but I was outsmarted by a cardboard box. FML
Do not feed the workers
Today, at work, I tried to sneakily open a bag of chips I had hidden in my desk drawer. The bag decided to explode as soon as I tore it open, sending chips flying everywhere. My boss chose that exact moment to walk by and saw me on the floor, frantically picking up chips. FML
Been there, done that
Today, I spent an hour trying to figure out why my laptop wouldn't charge. I restarted it three times, watched two tutorials, and almost ordered a new charger until I realized that the actual charger wasn't plugged into the wall. FML

Your brain seems to be malfunctioning. Try turning it off and on again.

Ah it happens OP. But hey, you're smart enough to replace a laptop chip! Maybe not to ACTUALLY replace it hehe

At least it won't take you much longer to get it (re)done. I did this once with my ram in my laptop lol

ram chips are usually right under the removable panel underneath so its faster to get to. ive had to replace the fan for mine and i have to remove everything... funny part is i always end up with an extra screw after
False_Stupidity 42
Exactly #9! And then you either take the whole thing apart again or spend the rest of the day wondering where the extra screws were meant to go and if they were strictly necessary to the proper functioning of the laptop.

I did this when replacing the screen in a laptop, I had sliced my finger on the plastic surround when trying to get it off, and then a tiny screw pinged off and disappeared. After spending ages trying to find the screw, I put it all back together without the screw, turned it on and realised I hadn't even taken the screen out. :(

I got a new HP workstation laptop at work about 3 weeks ago and to our surprise there is no door on the bottom. 12 screws later we were able to add some more ram and swap the hard drive for an ssd.

But think of the $ you are saving by doing it yourself.

a chip you say? your lack of terminology knowledge should have been a red flag that you would screw it up.

Do technology aficionados reject the existence of chips?

And humans who don't know the scientific name for every animal species they interact with are bound to screw it up.

I've been working IT much of my adult life, and most of the people I've worked with do indeed frequently call them "chips" in casual speech. Usually, the only people who insist on using the proper technical names for every single component are either trying to educate somebody, trying to differentiate between specific components, or are newbies or just plain pretentious asses trying to show off.

I've done that kind of thing before lol. But hey, at least you've taken it apart. Now it will be easier to do it next time!
