Today, I nearly lost a hand at work, because a supervisor decided to remove a 'useless' safety guard on a machine despite my warnings. He doesn't understand why I'm so upset with him. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Safety last
Today, my foreman complained that I was slowing down productivity and costing the company money, all because I was wearing a harness to protect me from falling over the edge of a three story building. FML
Today, during a workplace safety exercise at work, I managed to cut off the tip of my thumb. FML
Cutting corners
Today, we can finally order badly needed safety gear for my crew. My boss flipped his shit, demanding that I "stop bringing it up, it's annoying" for doing my damndest to keep up with industry standards. I was brought to tears for literally doing my job, with no "peers" to back me, since I'm an HR department of one. FML
Duly noted
Today, my boss watched me get my waistband hooked on a safety hazard in the warehouse. She included it in the safety report. FML
Work sucks, I know
Today, I had to go hands-on at work, while choking on mace, with a man who was mentally disturbed. It could have been avoided, if my supervisor had been less concerned with asserting dominance, and instead let the guy get a grip on the situation. Great use of my college degrees. FML
Bad boss
Today, despite warning my boss that it’s dangerous and stupid, he still insisted I get on with putting up a 4-storey tall scaffolding in high winds, and when it blew over, he blamed me for not putting it together correctly. FML
Zapped
Today, I got electrocuted at work. The boss thinks I'm faking, even though a chunk of my left hand is gone. FML
Today, I was making a shake at work when the cup fell off the blender. I went to catch it, and instead caught the teeth of the still-spinning mixer. When my hand was still bleeding five minutes later, my supervisor told me to clock out until it stopped. I lost money for getting hurt on the job. FML
Today, at 9 o’clock in the morning while I was working, I made the mistake of being comfortable with a machine that literally bends and breaks steel bars. I lost my entire middle finger and the top third of my pinky and ring fingers. FML
Everyone is replaceable
Today, I got in an argument with my boss and I dared him to fire me because he has always said he couldn’t run the shop without me. Turns out he was just being nice all this time, my job could in fact be done by his 14 year-old niece with no training in two thirds the time. Yes, he fired me. FML

Time to find a better job that actually puts your safety first..That's completely reckless and irresponsible of him.

That'd be an option until 3 months ago. Now, all regulations are impediments to business.

Perhaps file a grievance or call a lawyer.

OP, talk to his supervisor and HR.

call occupational health and safety your boss will listen to them when they cram fines down their throat

Sounds like you should be the supervisor

Let your manager know. He/she could get into serious trouble for that, or get fired.

If you had lost your hand because of that, you could have sued them for enough that you would never have to work again.

Yeah, that's a total OSHA violation and you should definitely report them. Normally, I'd say take it to HR or their higher up first but there's no guarantee they'll do anything or that your supervisor will listen and this is your safety and your life that they're risking.

Why would you operate a machine that was missing a safety guard that could cost you a hand?
phaelnb 26
Because he advised the supervisor not to remove the safety measures and the supervisor removed it anyway. He didn't know it.
mariri9206 32
Pretty sure they'd be able to tell it's missing.

I dunno. Every job I've ever worked involving machinery included a safety check of the tools or machines before operation. But even if they didn't, if someone told me they were going to remove a safety guard that could remove my hand, I'd be damned sure I made sure it was still there before using it.

soo your blaming the victim in this situation? the supervisor illegally removes safety features from equipment, and the guy almost gets horrifyingly injured and its his fault?
