Today, I have such severe ADD that I can't focus without my medication. When I take the medication, I can only focus on one thing, but not necessarily the thing I need to be focusing on. I have a chem test soon, and I've been vacuuming my room for the past 4 hours. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Free healthcare for all
Today, it's gotten to the point where I can't afford my ADD medication anymore. Now, I'm literally too poor to pay attention. FML
Today, I woke up early and took my medication to help me focus while catching up on lectures. I ended up spending the whole day focused on fixing my drawer for no apparent reason. FML
Drugs are bad, well, some of them
Today, like every day since my diagnosis, I've had to choose between two impossible options. Either I deal with debilitating headaches where I cannot focus, or I feel so drowsy that I cannot focus. My finals are in a week and I can't study. FML
Don't do drugs, kids
Today, I've been awake for nearly three days due to homework and my mom's wedding preparations, so I took some Adderall to keep me awake at school. I took too much, totally zoned out in class, became hopelessly fascinated by my own hand, and was accused of doing drugs. FML
Where is my mind?
Today, I was put on a medication for severe migraines. One of the side effects is difficulty concentrating and word recall. I was writing a paper and sat there trying to remember how to spell "isn't." This medication better work. FML
Mother knows best
Today, I have fibromyalgia and ADHD. I either have no energy, no focus, or no energy for anything, or I burn out trying to do everything. Meanwhile, my mother is adamant that I can be "cured" if I stop eating sugar. I'm allergic to most sweeteners and she won't believe me, and thinks she knows better than my doc. FML
Today, I was grounded by my dad for "popping pills like a gangbanger". I take prescription ADHD medicine and a multi-vitamin. FML
Sleep cycled out
Today, I'm doing the school run. I went to bed early and took a sleeping pill for my insomnia so I could be productive. Even if I could sleep past my partner snoring like a cave bear with sinus infection, it turns out that my sleeping pills make me hyper. The next person who says ADHD is fun is getting slapped. FML
Stuck in a rut
Today, my ADHD brain won't quit hyperfixating on one specific show. I've watched all 5 seasons 3 times through and have the wiki open at all times. I've tried watching other things, but even shows that I'm huge fan of don't cut it. I feel like there's no end in sight. FML
Lost in the sauce
Today, I found out that the mice infestations I've been fighting for the last two weeks was actually a recurring series of tactile/visual/auditory hallucinations, a side effect of a normal, prescribed, dosage of ADHD meds. FML

My son had the same problem after we switched his meds. Went back to the old stuff and his focus corrected. You may just be on the wrong prescription. We tried the other for 3 months so I totally feel ya.

As a person with ADD. You will only focus on one thing! But you have to want to do the work. You have to switch mindsets. Clean later, study now! For people who don't think ADD is real, or that those who have it should just suck it up. It is very hard to accomplish anything with ADD. I am two completely different people with and without my medication. With it, I'm calm, quiet, logical and in complete control of any impulse I may have. Without it, I'm the type of person who dances to the song "Feliz Navidad" in Walmart at 2am. I've had friends tell me that they don't want to be around me when I'm not on my medication because I'm just different. I'm actually happier without it, but I get nothing done.

Those "friends" that won't hang around you when you're not on our meds, were never your friends to begin with. I have ADHD myself and I have not been medicated since I was 12. Now I'm 27 and my friends love me for who I am... without the meds. You are a better person without them.

In their defense, I'm a completely different person from whom they thought they were friends with when I'm not on my meds. I am happier without them, I feel a lot more free, like my mind can run at full speed without the restraints of focusing. But at the same time, I realize and recognize that I am a fully functioning and contributing member of society with my medication. More so with than without. I respect your ability to cope without meds. In my experience, it's extremely difficult. I remember the happiest I had felt in a long time was when a girl told me that she preferred me without my meds, and that I was an interesting and funny person with no dull moments. That's one of the best things to hear from someone.

You might need to have your dosage checked or put on a different medicine. I know exactly how you feel OP. It sucks so much

Sounds like your dose is too high. Or you might consider an extended release so the drug won't be as potent... Then maybe you can function normally instead of being too focused.

I am fine now. When I was in my early teens my meds were ****** up. I am 24 now, so I have been on the same dosage since I was 14.

Hey at least you were able to focus enough to write an FML. Good luck on the test though

I know how hard it is to keep paying attention whilst trying to study. It's so easy to get sucked into doing something else...
