Today, I had to carry a 25kg bag of cement to an elderly customer's car because she refused to use a cart. "You're paid to work, so I'm gonna make you work." FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, at a customer's house, I was asked to carry her delivery of six pieces of heavy furniture up to her office. Normally, not a problem, but this insane woman had Witches' Stairs (Google them), which were was an accident begging to happen. She told my boss I was unhelpful, uncooperative, and rude. FML
Today, when I got home from work exhausted and literally ready to fall over, my mom had me carry several heavy bags of dog food for her. Yesterday, it was coals; before that it was horse feed and gas bottles. Before that, I'd just asked her to keep the hard, physical work to the weekends. FML
Today, at work, a customer threatened to punch me in the face because the store I work at doesn't have shopping baskets, only carts. FML
Today, while buying paint, I began to help an elderly woman working to lift some heavy boxes. She told me what a nice young lady I was. Then her boss came over, screamed at her for being lazy and fired her. She cried. So did I. FML
Today, my manager cussed me out for being unable to keep a customer happy. That "customer" was a senile old twit who had wandered away from his carer, thought our shop was his living room, and demanded to know who replaced all his furniture. FML
Today, I was helping my wife bring in the groceries. She was able to carry 4 bags and a jug of milk. I was struggling with 2 bags. FML
Today, I was at work as a cashier. An old lady unbagged everything I had, and angrily "taught" me how to bag. She put potatoes on her eggs and broke them. She then screamed that I was useless and retarded in front of all my other customers and manager. FML
Today, I asked an elderly customer at my work if she needed help with her groceries. She responded, "I normally would, but I'm afraid you'll eat all the groceries." FML
Today, a customer bought a bike. He paid for it and asked us to escort both him and the bike to a bus stop, about a 20-minute walk away. He had no car and said he couldn't bring the bike to the stop because it was "too heavy." When we said we're not allowed to abandon post, he cussed us out and called our manager. FML
Today, I was at work, stocking shelves. A customer got mad because I was in the way of her "shopping time" and knocked down all the work I had done. FML

Carts are meant to convey goods from one point to other. OP could have used that time and effort elsewhere. That was unfair.

I also live in Victoria, you have ever right to tell her that you refuse to serve her. I've worked in retail for 7 years. Also you are not required to carry anything over 20kg on the fact it can ruin your back without a brace. Next time tell her politely "I'm sorry, but I cannot do what you are asking without a cart for my own personal safety. If you would like to argue this further I'm happy to give you your money back and you can go elsewhere." legally you're allowed to turn down any customer. Honestly, retail doesn't get paid enough to deal with her bullshit.

There is no actual law on how much you are allowed to lift. There is only a law that says your employer is not allowed to knowingly expose you to hazardous situations. So, if this lifting is a one-time thing, it is not illegal.

25kg bags are concrete, cement comes in 40kg bags. Clearly you're new to the building materials industry if you don't know that, or if you don't realize it IS your job to carry things.

That's only 50lbs. I carry that around 20 times a day on an average day at my job.. Sometimes two at a time.
