Today, I got to explain to my co-worker again why I can't move my "vacation" so she can take hers when she wants. Apparently, in her mind, her seniority at the company trumps my due date. FML
sulitak tells us more.

1. It did take work to get pregnant. 2. I put in for my leave as soon as I found out. It has been on the schedule for 5 months already. 3. She is the SAME position as me, not my superior. She has just held a position at the company for longer. Though, even if it was a vacation for vacation thing, I would still have priority through our company's rules. Seniority get priority to a point. Low man on the totem pole can request days off, then it gets put on the calendar, everyone above them has a month to "override" those days. If it stands for a month with no objections, low man gets their vacation.

Tell her to **** off. It's crazy how people have no respect for others.

It's kinda disheartening that this comes from a woman...

Technically if you're a union company...both of you should be able to take your vacations when you please. Her seniority does trump your due date; but you technically get it off due to being pregnant. Your bosses are at fault; not you all. Talk to them; don't fight amongst yourselves. I know because I'm the most senior at my union job and a coworker is pregnant. We both got off those months because they can't deny either of us our vacation/maternity leave (respectively).

totally not a union job. But that is awesome! Have a great vacation

In most places, vacation is scheduled as first person to schedule their vacation gets the days they want. If she waited to schedule hers till later, too bad so sad. I understand that "due dates" are not always accurate and you could go into labor at any point prior to or after the predicted due date but this isn't about your due date, its about when you scheduled your time off. So if you want to change your vacation days, then do it. Otherwise she should deal with it.

So those of us who fail to agree that simple act of creating the 7th billion-ish human on the planet somehow entitles one to some special priority in life can simply be dismissed as idiots? Spreading your legs for the conception or birth is no special trick, and puts one in no exclusive, let alone small, club. But, that attitude certainly explains the soccer-moms in mini-vans who seem to think they too deserve to first in line "because they have children". What BS.

I get what you are saying, but you're missing the point. Yeah, for most, getting pregnant does not take years of work like getting promoted does. But op can't control when she delivers. Also, if op took her vacation days first, then op's coworker needs to deal. Saying op feels entitled to special treatment just because she's pregnant is ridiculous. If you and i both head to a drug store and want to buy gum, and there is only one left then the first person who gets the gum gets the gum. Am i supposed to say that you feel entitled so that's why you took the candy i wanted?

Let me explain this to your retarded self: Women can NOT do their job when the baby is crowning. They need rest and recovery. Also, bosses offer perks like maternity leave, paid vacations to RETAIN and attract good employees.

You are an idiot. Maybe your parents shouldn't have taken time off to have you. You could have just as easily been a burden to one of their coworkers. Sure making a child isn't special to you, but you hardly seem like a parent and if you are you seem like a crap parent. Children take priority over your margaritas and mai-tais on the beach. OP doesn't feel entitled. She feels bloated and probably had back pain. Being pregnant sucks dude... it is worth it, but it sucks... I bet you are one of those douches that wont trade his vacation days so another person can get off to tend to his/her sick parent or child. I guess they are entitled because they are sick right? They get special treatment those lucky bastards. And all they had to do was get a disease that leaves them bed ridden. I've met people like you and seen how their lives turn out. Your greed and selfishness will consume you and you will never be TRULY happy.

Do you not understand a single thing about life? Do you realize how much your parents had to give up for you? And I'm sure you wouldn't think there was a problem if your parent or loved one became I'll and you needed time to care for them. It's a hard job creating a life and bringing it into the world. That's why so many women used to have complications but that's to modern medicine we know a woman needs to be "entitled" to maternal leave which really isn't "vacation" time. To sum it up you're an idiotic thoughtless rude being who needs to learn to keep their trap shut.

Just because someone is senior to them, they deserve the holiday they want and the 'lower' people have to put up with it. I'd hate to work there. What a load of rubbish.

How disrespectful. It baffles me how brains and courtesy just doesn't matter anymore in employment.

Some people fall firmly in the 'shit for brains' category.

I can hear this convo in my head: Douche COWORKER: Like, can't you just not go into labor?! I mean, Seriously. I have seniority over you, therefore your baby has no business being born till its convenient to me. OP: -.-
sulitak 27
lol, pretty close actually!

I feel sorry for you because you have to work with someone both inconsiderate and idiotic! But good luck with your baby :)
