Today, I got a laptop for my birthday. I was thrilled until I realized that my mom had given away my old one without asking. 6 years of games, music, and pictures down the drain. FML

Yikes. Ask for it back so you can get all the old data from it! I'm sure any reasonable person would oblige

She probably had sold it to buy you this one.

That's why you should back them up! That's never fun though, I hope you can somehow get them back.

Try and find out who she gave it to and see if you can borrow it back to transfer all your stuff! Hopefully she gave it to someone you know not just to charity.

Yikes, this is why I use an external hard drive for my important files. Also protects from losing the files if my laptop dies...

She never considered you might have had at least ONE important saved file after 6 years?

Just find the owner and ask if you can transfer your stuff. I bet they would understand.

Hope they didn't wipe it yet!!

Don't you have a backup drive for the old computer?!

I had mine for 5 years and I'm looking to get a new one too. I was planning to sell my old one. I wouldn't have minded if my mom did that, since I do have the important stuff saved on flash drives but I'm sorry that happened to you, OP. :(

More like Bye-tech

Nobody said 'hi-tech' so this joke makes no sense.

#48, the joke makes sense because OP's username is Hi-Tech.

Oh, whoops. I'm blind.
