Today, I found out that my boss, who had promised me a raise, is not promoting me. He says I don't have the right 'vibe' and I'm not 'relaxed' enough for the job. FML

Today, I met with my boss hoping to hear about a possible raise that had been promised many months ago. He then told me that the only way I would get a raise was if I found a better paying job and took it, and that the company was in no position to offer anyone a raise. FML
Today, I had an hour-long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML
Today, my boss made up a rumor that I was quitting my job so I wouldn't get the promotion that was coming up. There goes that raise I've been wanting for six months. FML
Today, after putting in 110% at my shitty job for two years straight, my boss told me point-blank I'm too good in my current position for him to ever be able to justify promoting me. FML
Today, after two and half years at my company and after recently being promoted, I was told by my boss the business doesn't feel it needs me, and invited me to find another job. FML
Today, my boss called me into his office. I've been working hard doing extra work so I can get promoted. He called me in to tell me I'm to reliable in my current position, so I won't be moving up. FML
Today, I found out that the reason I didn't get the job that I have been working my butt off for over a year for is because they can't find anybody who can do my current job as good as me. I'm too good to be promoted. FML
Today, my boss took back the raise he promised me, because I'm “not as resilient as I made him believe.” Well yes, I had the audacity to get sick at an inconvenient time for the company, and I am hardly able to leave my bed, let alone work. Which is apparently due to a “lack of positive mindset.” FML
Today, I found out that my promotion had been rescinded and given to someone else, all because I was on a pre-approved vacation. According to my boss, they need someone who's "committed to the company" for the position, and gave me a lecture on how if I keep being "lazy" and "unmotivated" I'll never get ahead. FML
Today, my boss was fired by the board. A few days ago, he dropped several strong hints that he was going to promote me soon. FML

This happenend to me once. I applied for a higher position which I was more than qualified for and my boss denied it and gave it to someone less qualified. When I confronted him and asked what I could have done differently he said "Oh nothing. I just don't like you."

I agree with #2 - ask what you can do, your boss may have suggestions to try and hopefully next time theres a promotion youll be ready. It sounds like all you want is the raise anyway, maybe your boss noticed and thats why you didnt get the promotion

There seems to be a consensus amongst the commentors that that "being relaxed" and doing nothing at work is the same thing. In some jobs it could be benificial to give a relaxed impression, rather than appearing stressed out constantly. So OP's boss could have a legitimate concern.

hi guys! op here. in regards to wanting the raise, that would have been nice seeing as I could seriously use the money. however, I was hoping to make it a career, something stable and not a corporation like that was awesome and my boss is amazing. he finally fessed up that he just can't afford it right now and he has to do everything himself because of that. no biggie. I'm a workaholic, so I've got more than one job. thank you all for the support and I look forward to seeing more funny comments!!! I'd also appreciate any constructive criticism so that maybe I can be more relaxed in the future. lol. still can't believe this got posted. peace!!

ok. so vaping. nicotine is a stimulant. It won't help you relax. The only reason it would help anyone relax is that they are addicted and addicts tend to freak a little when they don't get their fix. But I'm the end, that just gives the illusion that it relaxes you. physiologically the body won't be relaxed.
