Grind mindset
Today, I found out that my promotion had been rescinded and given to someone else, all because I was on a pre-approved vacation. According to my boss, they need someone who's "committed to the company" for the position, and gave me a lecture on how if I keep being "lazy" and "unmotivated" I'll never get ahead. FML

Time to move on. You don't want to work for a company like that. This culture of work has to be your entire life needs to stop

You gave a 2 week notice after finding another job right

You thought you could actually take your vacation AND move up in the company? Vacation is dangled in front of you at hiring time to attract low-level mouth-breathers to accept perpetual grunt work. It's a trap to measure your real commitment to the company. Good luck with those decades of grunt work for the occasional vacay.

The chances are that management had second thoughts about the promotion or found a cheaper or more qualified, or family related candidate and the vacation flap was just covering their change of plans. Don’t quit until you find an acceptable job, but start looking now! Management that would do that would be a misery to work for in many other ways. In the future while it’s essential to schedule vacation and get approval, don’t automatically assume boss remembers your scheduled vacation. Remind boss a week or two before your vacation so they can make sure the position is covered. It’s also possible boss forgot about your approved vacation and then freaked out when you didn’t show up. Management almost never admits to error so you get the blame…

A boss not having in mind his employees’vacations is a truly bad one. It is not their job to remind him/her that they won’t be there or how the job will be covert. Schedules exist for a reason.
