Today, I found out I'm pregnant. It's okay, I know who the father is: my ex-boyfriend, who moved to Japan last week. FML

Hiii, I'm the OP. thanks for all the lovely comments, although there's a few that aren't very nice. I'm 24 btw, not 16, and I did use birth control, but you do know it's only 99% safe, right? These things can sadly happen. And we broke up because he was going.

Some how he figured it out before you did and he got the heck out of dodge!

I hope for your baby's sake that you two broke up on good terms, and that it wasn't a really rough split. If you choose to have your baby your ex can still help you provide for him/her, it just won't be as simple since he's in another country. Good luck, OP. Definitely a tough situation.

That gives a whole new meaning to ".. Moving far far away.."
IworkAt711 14
Please explain
S182 15
It's a new meaning for that phrase because that phrase had no meaning to begin with...
red_headforlife 15
Yeah... Sorry still not getting it.
VannahJane 17
The whole point is that there is no new meaning

Japan's Yen is strong, plus they often earn six figures and pay very little tax (expats), and Japan has very conservative views on family life, so getting generous child support won't be a problem at all. A friend I know gets $1600 a week from his dad who works in China.
machiavelli2 5
well if things aren't ideal make sure to get the payment in dollars, the yen may be a little less than you want.
GothickNihilist 15
#110 Yes the yen is extremely strong ( last time I checked 72yen to 1usd ) . The cost of living in Japan is astronomical. Certain areas such as Tokyo cost of living is extremely high. Most jobs in a non executive position, don't pay as high.

#116 - Expats usually live in a serviced apartment and have a hired car paid for by the company. They also get a ton of benefits (two flights home per year, company credit card, executive access) so basically, their expenses are only food and miscellaneous expenses- working abroad is mainly earning money to enjoy for when you go back home.

Get him to move back in the next nine months!!!
misspennycakes 7
Why?? They've obviously broken up for a reason! Yeah they should totes get back together for a baby that always works!
vadaaa 11
15- that isn't he point. the point is that the father should move back so he can help with the child an be there for it.
Hpixiee 23
or just make him pay child support.
vadaaa 11
48- there is a HUGE difference between being there for your child and paying child support.
Hpixiee 23
Well obviously, but if he doesn't go for being there for the child, hunt the bastard down and make him pay. Hope things go well, OP.

15- Maybe they broke up because the boyfriend got offered an opportunity in Japan and op didn't want to go? I would think that's the best possibilitt and maybe something can be worked out for them to at least coparent peacefully.
_krystallynn_ 11
a baby should have his/her father in its life.
gc327072 31
90- tell that to Harriet Vanger.

Maury: The lie detector test has determined.. He is NOT going to be back anytime soon.
TheCamoWulf 17
Did you tell him yet op? FMl and I wish you luck with the child
Wishez 12
OP may not be able to contact him now that he lives in Japan.
TheCamoWulf 17
That's a good point, but I hope she could find a way to tell him

28 I'm pretty sure they have internet connection and phone lines there too.

I thought they still lived in bamboo huts and only eat rice.

Wow my asian friends are right:....people can be ignorant about their culture....especially since you know tokyo is known for electronics as well....

#132- I'm pretty sure that #111 was being sarcastic
spearcom 13
Move to japan. That would be so cool.
AH1Zviper 15
Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
It would be cool, but OP would have to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road.
CrookedCook 14
^ not sure if kidding... or just stupid.
klutz44 28
88 - not sure what part of the comment you're referring to but in Japan they do drive on the opposite side of the road from the US.
geeksaresexy 18
OP is in the UK.. Same side of the road as Japan.
ducki1989 4
You could always show up to japan, unexpectedly and then dropped the bomb on him.
ElatedEarthling 15
What a WWII American suggestion. :p

You Dropped a bomb on me!!! It Reminded me of that song.
doritowhore 9
Oh yes, because travelling to an entirely different continent and just showing up, if she even knew the address, is a very convenient and sane idea! Props to you!

I'm pretty sure they were making a joke....not being serious...who knows?
simoncat 11
I was waiting for that reference.

baby's sake ? baby's don't have Sake i hope..
mdwilde 7
I love it when people say, "...if you choose to have your baby."
BeccaHugs 17
If you're not smart enough to not get pregnant before you're ready then you are sure as hell NOT allowed to "choose" to have the baby or not. You (OP) made the mistake and now you have to take on the responsibilities.
SnoochBoochie 14
I'll back you up, 25, babies should not be drinking Sake.
happle 21
104- What if she can't financially support the child and s/he has a really hard life? That's seems like shitty logic to me.
ThaNamesBooth 10
104, not getting pregnant isn't just about "smarts." Sometimes shit just happens, even with all the precautions. What an ignorant thing for you to say.
misspennycakes 7
104 your an idiot
squideth 18
104 keep your anti-woman shit to yourself. A woman's body is her own, not for you or the government to control, ever. Women aren't cattle to be used for breeding; they're human beings. And don't you even think of trying to rationalize that a small bunch if cells is worth more than the actual grown living being harboring them, because that's complete sexist bullshit.
lokiitababii69 19
lol 52... idk if everyone understood the sake joke... (its sake the Japanese liquor for those who dnt get it)o
Lucia_Malpense 14
What was his name? Desmond?
AnimeCookie 9
How does this relate to Desmond in any way?
Lucia_Malpense 14
OP's name is Juno...? Ha ha, yeah, I know it's a stretch. Still worth it.

He must have found out before you.
