Today, I arrived home after taking one airplane from A to B. My luggage never made it on the plane with me, and now the airline is looking for it. One plane and still lost my suitcase. FML

Today, after 10 years of frequent international air travel, I got my seat upgraded for the very first time. Also, for the very first time in 10 years, the airline lost my luggage. FML

Today, I was heading out for my flight to Australia. I'd put a padlock on my luggage to keep my wallet and passport safe, only to realize way too late that I'd left the key at home. I couldn't get at my passport and ended up missing my flight and my whole vacation along with it. FML

Today, I was at the airport getting ready to go to Hawaii. The guy at the counter said my flight was delayed. It turns out that the flight that was delayed was a flight going to Miami. My flight left at the regular time, and my luggage was on it, because I checked in the night before. FML

Today, I was on a flight home. I wasn't going to arrive until midnight, so I was offered an earlier flight that got back at ten. I got to baggage claims and it turned out they lost my bag. I sat there for 2 hours. The people on my original flight left for home before I did. FML

Today, I was sitting in the airport, watching the baggage handlers load the plane I was about to get on. They were being really rough with it, one bag came open and all the clothes spilled out onto the tarmac. The clothes looked familiar. They were mine. FML

Today, I arrived at the airport only to find my suitcase was lost and my 3 weeks worth of clothes and supplies gone. All I had left was my wallet and carry ons. Upon leaving the airport I was mugged. FML

Today, I flew some 1,800km cross country for a work conference. The trip involved an Uber, two trains, the flight, a bus, and the conference itself. My shirt was inside out the whole time, and not one soul mentioned it. FML

Assuming you have money with you just buy some essentials while you try to figure out what's wrong with your luggage.

The airlines sometimes reimburse you so you can buy new clothes.

I'm not saying they are cheap. I'm also not saying the situation is optimal. But buy the bare necessities to get by for a few days. It sucks, but you have to do what you have to do :/

Yup. Depending on where you are, you can buy several clothes at Ross, Marshalls, or Burlington clothes factory for $100

I think most people that fly regularly have tried it. Not the end of the world - it usually shows up a little later ans there's the added benefit of new free underwear

Usually you'd some refund from the airline to cover necesities if they lose your luggage. But maybe not in the states?

^He's right. Our airline lost all of our luggage on the way to Mexico so they told us to buy any necessities and they would refund it. We got our luggage the next day and I believe they gave us $200 toward our next flight. Not bad, and got a cute bikini out of the deal.

I've been flying American lately. They're not the same as they were 10 years ago with crappy noisy planes and low employee moral. They've got gorgeous planes, customer service has been excellent (even as I flew out of a hurricane and through a civil uprising), and tbh, the first class cabins on American are some of the most comfy I've flown in.

Well now you have a valid reason for a new wardrobe! Still sorry because I'm sure you had some sentimental items that may or may not be able to be replaced. I'd check with the airline and see if there is any chance it could be recovered.

I had that happen to me once when I was moving... The airline didn't even apologize and I never got my stuff back :( luckily it wasn't anything too important
