Today, I filled in for my absent pregnant co-worker like I have done since she went on disability a month ago, at the job I’ve been doing for 15 months. Today the replacement they hired also came to work, and I had to train her since she has more experience and got the maternity leave position over me. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got promoted. By promoted, I mean, given a much harder job with no training and no extra pay because someone went on maternity leave. They've already hired someone for my old position. FML
Keep schtum
Today, I found out I'm pregnant. Last week my coworker, who I sit next to 5 days a week, returned to work after bereavement maternity leave. FML
Close, but no cigar
Today, after months of tests, I was the only candidate left for my dream job. Then, only a few days before the last meeting before signing the contract, I get a call from HR informing me their co-worker unexpectedly came back from unpaid leave and that they are obliged to give him the job. FML
Today, at work my boss told me I have been late, under-productive, and using up a lot of sick days. He says my job is on the line. My reason for barely showing up at work: I've been on maternity leave for 6 weeks. FML
Time for a dirty protest
Today, I asked my boss if he was getting temp workers to cover the three ladies from my office on maternity for at least the next two years. He laughed at my fine joke, then said my office will just have to cope. I’m the only member of that office left. I have to do the work of four people for two years. FML
Office life sucks
Today, I was supposed to start a new job. I had accepted a new position with a different company three weeks ago, and gave my notice. At the time, I even trained my replacement. Today, I found out that my new work doesn't need me anymore. So, I'm unemployed. FML
I got this!
Today, my boss quit his job and stopped coming in without warning. Guess who just inherited his tasks and responsibilities without the training or pay associated with his manager role. I was hired last year as a junior system admin. FML
Now hiring
Today, it's my first day as the boss, after waiting months for this promotion. Today is also the day my replacement, who I trained for three months, quit. Now I've got two jobs for the price of one. FML
Exploited
Today, we had two of our longest serving coworkers retire at the company I work at, and they hired two young prospects to replace them. The problem? They asked me to train them both for the next 4 months, cancelling my PTO in the process, and then I learned they were being paid nearly 20% more than I am. FML
Workers rise up!
Today, I found out that, despite working 4 part-time jobs, that I will not qualify for maternity leave by my due date with the mandatory 600 hours. I can't get full-time work and I'm 8 months pregnant now. This'll be fun! FML

Don’t know what “mat leave” is. Is that slang for maternity leave? Why would you be training someone who has more experience than you? And why would it be an FML if she got the job over you?

I swear I’ve seen this FML before

My condolences! I’m sorry I saw this story for the first time. It must be worse to have to suffer through it twice.

Yes, mat leave would be maternity leave. OP is training the replacement because the replacement has more experience with the pregnant coworkers job duties but probably doesn't know the OP's office's specific procedural norms so has to be taught those. I'm not really sure why this is an FML. It doesn't make sense for the company to temporarily move OP to the coworker's job for a few months while the co-worker is out, hire a temporary replacement for OP's job that presumably still needs done too, and then move OP back to their original job when the co-worker is back. Makes more sense to just hire a temp to do the job of the person who's temporarily out on leave. Which is what they did.

This is way too complicated and a minor annoyance to be a good FML story.

They wanted you to go back to doing your original job, so they hired someone to cover the position you are covering?

Maternity cover is usually covered by a temp. They can’t hire a permanent replacement by law. That’s why they can’t promote you.

Why would you want to move into a temporary role?

Maybe the role she’s in isn’t permanent either.

maybe you shouldn't breed
