Today, I decided to try wearing eyeshadow, even though I'm not that girly. When I asked for help after several failed attempts, my sister walked in and said, "It's easy, just do what I do." She put the makeup on herself and looked amazing. She's eight. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my sister gave me a makeover. I protested, but she insisted it'd look great. After an eternity of eyebrow plucking, she handed me the mirror. I now have extremely badly-drawn sharpie eyebrows. FML
Today, I helped out with makeup at my daughter's high school play. As one girl walked past, I told her that she'd smudged pink lipstick all up the side of her face. Turns out it was a birthmark. She cried in the dressing room for half an hour. FML
Why not both?
Today, my 6 year-old daughter saw me putting on makeup and asked, “Mommy, are you trying to look less tired or more alive?” FML
Today, I went to the store with my 4 1/2 year old daughter. When we got to the cosmetics aisle, she asked what make-up was for, I told her it was to make women prettier. My daughter then told me it was a good thing I wear make-up because I was ugly and that I might scare off my husband. FML
Presumptuous
Today, I took my daughter to a makeup store at the mall to get foundation to match her skin. The woman behind the counter scoffed, rolled her eyes, then called me a Karen when I asked for a manager. My daughter is 7 and I was getting makeup to match her elf ears for a costume we were making. FML
Magic is real, OK?
Today, my little sister received a fairy costume from my aunt. She put it on and waved her wand at me. She said, "Abracadabra, bibbity poo. I wish Sydney was pretty." When I did nothing, she put her hands on her hips and said, "Can't you just act pretty?" FML
Today, I was feeling abnormally self-confident, so I decided to skip putting on any makeup. The first thing my 7-year-old cousin said when she saw me was, "You look like my pet rat!" FML
Today, I gave in and let my friend give me a makeover. She couldn't find my eyelash curler, but decided that if she used scissors lightly, it would work just the same. Needless to say, it did not work. FML
Today, I got my sister to pluck my eyebrows. She shaped them wrong, so now I look constantly sad. FML
Looks to Die For...
Today, my six-year-old son told me my makeup looks like his grandmother's did in the casket. FML

Am I the only one wondering why the 8 year old is wearing make up?

The only issue about little girls using make up is to strike the balance between using it for fun and using it because they don't feel confident without it. When this happens then there is a problem. For example, these stupid beauty pageants for toddlers are just ridiculous. It's the parent that selfishly benefit there, not the child.

Don't worry about it, I never used to wear make-up and comparing to lots of women my age, I am a lacking a lot of knowledge when it comes to it. I just never bothered because I am lucky enough to have a fairly good skin and not to need much make-up. I started to put make up on regularly in my mid-20ies. It took me a while before I could apply eye shadow correctly. It's just a matter of practice. You can find some tips on Youtube if you want to learn.

I'm 19 and I never used make-up either. I feel like I'd look ridiculous.

Better than if you had a brother do it...and if your not a huge make up fan leave it that way...

Let her teach you how to do your eyeshadows, and then teach her how to be a kid. You obviously had a nicer childhood than she does.

That's a really intense assumption...

That is a ridiculous assumption! It is MAKE-UP! Wearing make-up at eight years old does not mean she is having a bad childhood. It just means make-up is a part of her childhood. Being abused is a bad childhood. Living in poverty can cause a bad childhood. Having an absent parent can cause a bad childhood. Wearing make-up DOES NOT contribute to a bad childhood. It's 2013! Enough with the stereotypes and grow up!

Am I the only creeped out that an 8 year is advance enough to put make up on? I think kids grow up too fast nowadays.
OverBlossomed 22
Wearing make-up doesn't mean she's growing up too fast. It means she likes make-up and that is all it means.

She's a natural! Has talent I reckon

There is no way an 8-year-old should be wearing makeup.
OverBlossomed 22
Because...? It's make-up, not drugs. Unless she starts eating it, there shouldn't be a problem as long as she's wearing it because she likes it.

You can't just assume things as a whole. Do you know exactly why she wears make-up or? She could wear because it makes her feel pretty, or many other reasons. Besides, an 8-year-old wearing make-up like a pro is just as weird as an 8-year-old on Facebook using an iPad.

8 yr olds are NOT meant to wear make up on a regular basis..I can see the occasional "dress up", but whom ever in your house would let her do that daily, needs to stop that crap ASAP. (Just my opinion, as I wouldn't let my daughter wear it until she's at least 17)
OverBlossomed 22
Why do they need to stop? She's wearing make-up, not smoking marijuana. If she wears it daily, so what? If it's not toxic to her skin, what's the problem?

I agree that 8 is a little young but 17? I felt like an outcast not wearing makeup at 15... Please realize that time has changed....

A very common style for kids is referred to as 'Prostitot' for a reason.
OverBlossomed 22
Again, we're talking lipstick, not clothes. And I don't base my opinions on media. The media blames victims of rape for what has happened to them. **** it.

It's honestly gross if, just because a kid wears colorful make-up or a tank-top and shorts, they view them as *****. They are kids! If people sexualize them for what they wear, that's not the kids fault, that is the creepy perverts who would actually view kids in that way. Like OverBlossomed said, if it's not toxic to their skin, there is literally no reason why little kids shouldn't wear make-up. Also, even though I see nothing wrong with kids playing with make-up regularly, just because the kid can put on make-up well doesn't mean that they wear it all the time. And, how come, if it's just once in a while for dress-up, make up is okay, but if it's more often, it's bad? Whether it's all the time or rarely, it's still putting on make-up.

I had a moment of similar frustration when I was trying to do something with my hair. "I'm a girl; I'm supposed to be able to do this stuff!" But my mom stepped in and said that being a girl doesn't mean you'll be good at "girly" things, and that it takes practice like anything else. If you've focused on other things and haven't developed those skills as much, of course you won't be very good at it, but you can put in the time and get better, just like any other skill. And she was right; my skills are elsewhere because that's where I spent my time. Not being good at "girly" things doesn't make me any less of a girl, it just means I'm less of a "girly" girl, and I'm more than okay with that; it's not the kind of person I really wanted to be, anyway, and even if it was, the beautiful thing is that I can still learn.
