Today, I painted my daughter's room with the new paint we bought. It's an oil-based paint which hides all blemishes on the wall, but apparently makes me sick. I'm now throwing up everywhere, but at least the room looks good. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I was painting my bedroom walls, when I was struck with an uncontrollable bout of diarrhea. I had to watch helplessly from the en-suite bathroom as my 2 year old daughter painted a lovely picture for me, all over my new $500 sofa. FML
Today, I have horrible morning sickness. I was helping my daughter fingerpaint, when suddenly the smell of the paint set my stomach off. I threw up all over myself and her painting. FML
Today, I painted the guest bathroom. Once finished, I noticed the paint splatters on my arms matched my lily white chalky skin. Paint matches me better than my makeup. Guess I need a different paint, and new make up. FML
Today, I finished painting my living room. I had to leave the house in a rush. When I got home, I found smears of paint all around and the carpet crusted with paint that had dried. My cat had rubbed up against the walls and tracked it around. FML
Today, I had to be treated for chemical burns, because my mother got the bright idea of using paint thinner to clean me up after I'd painted our living room. FML
Today, my husband and I were looking for a new house. The open house we were in had a strange floral scent to entice the buyers. I am three months pregnant and have horrible morning sickness. I threw up all over the living room. FML
Today, my landlady decided to fix the leak in my room. Her solution was repainting the ceiling. Now not only is my room still wet but it now reeks of paint thinner. FML
Today, I spent the afternoon painting my bedroom and was really pleased with how it turned out. When I moved the furniture back, I noticed a large patch behind the wardrobe I'd missed. The paint shop had closed, and I had no idea which shade I'd used. FML
Today, after three weeks of hard work, I finally finished painting my room. Apparently my 6-year-old brother thought I wasn't done and that he should help me out. I now have little red handprints all over my white walls. FML
Today, I came home to find that my girlfriend had repainted my bedroom. As she had offered to do it, it shouldn't have been a problem. However, she decided to return the several unopened cans of off-white paint that I'd bought for something "more neutral." Like "Sunset Orange." FML

It's the fumes from the painting. a common complaint from painting with oil paints is the super overwhelming fumes. Another is that it has a tendency to crack over time. So if the experience was that terrible just deal with having to paint multiple coats than deal with the noxiousness and possibility of having to repaint sooner if using oil.

So if the experience was that terrible just deal with having to paint multiple coats than deal with the noxiousness and possibility of having to repaint sooner if using oil.

I've always preferred working with latex paints... didn't even know about the cracking.

This is my post. My daughters are 2&3 years old. My 2 year old is extremely destructive and pulled all the wallpaper off and exposed the drywall. Tired of constantly painting over it and still seeing through I got this oil based one to cover everything. My mistake was not opening the window while painting. After airing out for a few hours everything was good. Now I'm sick again but this time it's the flu ?

I guess you could be allergic to the fumes. Just curious did you open the windows to allow fresh air into the room. Otherwise I'm not sure why you got sick. Feel better.
