Today, I got a puppy. I just found out I can't bring it on the family trip. To save me the trouble of finding a friend to take her in, my mum handed her back to the pound. FML

Today, I found my dog, who had been missing for over a month, at the local pound. Clearly it was my dog, she responded to her name and cried when she saw me. However, the woman there told me I could not simply take her, I had to follow through with all policies. I paid $250 to adopt my own dog. FML
Today, I went to my father's house to get my dog, since I had left it with him while I was on a business trip. When I got there, my dad said the dog pooped on the floor a few days ago, and so he took him to the pound. FML
Today, I brought back the puppy I adopted for my family. I spent months doing all the research on puppy care with two young children, and at least five hundred dollars for the dog, the supplies, toys… the whole lot. Turns out everyone's allergic to her. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me over the phone, after having left me to look after her dog while she went on a 2-week vacation with her family. Now I have to choose between paying for a kennel for her damn dog or taking care of it every day until she gets back. FML
Today, my girlfriend canceled our date I've been looking forward to all week because her dog was having puppies. She doesn't have a dog. FML
Today, my parents finally fulfilled my childhood dream and got a puppy, after years of me nagging at them. The only downside is that I no longer live at home and he's not mine. FML
Today, after I went to live with my biological mom, after she convinced me she’s been off drugs while I was living with my grandparents, she gave me one of two puppies she'd bought as a gift. Then she got arrested. Turns out she stole said puppy. Some things never change. FML
Today, my mother informed me that she sold my dog to pay off some bills. FML
Today, my mother-in-law "borrowed" my dog without asking, to show him off to her friends. My dog is my service animal, and I'm not comfortable leaving the house without him. I have to be at work in an hour, and she's not picking up her phone. FML
Today, my mom bought me a puppy. I’m single, I work 14 hour days, my life is in no way suitable for pet ownership, but mom won’t take him back because she thinks I need to learn adult responsibility. I’m a senior technician with a team of 17 people, I couldn’t be more responsible if I tried. FML

What the heck? The OP is an idiot JUST for not staying home on vacation for a puppy that she recently got? Clearly, the OP didn't have time to think before her mother returned the puppy. On another note: The pound shouldn't have accepted the puppy back, because it is VERY traumatizing when a dog is expecting to go to a better home then is returned to the pound. It's the same case as a foster home. You see a kid, and you want him. He's all packed and ready to go when you find out you can't adopt him. (It could also be a her) How do you think the kid would feel? It's even worse for a little puppy.

Than idiots shouldn't adopt puppies without being prepared to care for them for their entire lives! This isn't the shelters fault. Many are obligated by law to accept every animal that comes in. This is about the OP and/or his mother being irresponsible.

There are a lot of opinions that people are sharing here based on, well nothing actually. What is with everyone assuming that the OP didn't get permission before adopting the puppy? Or that they are irresponsible because their mother took the puppy back rather than giving them time to figure out a way for someone to care for it while they were gone? Who is to say that this family vacation is something that is right around the corner happening in the next few days? Maybe they aren't going for over a week and felt they had time to settle in the puppy and find a sitter. Seriously, all you get from reading this is that the person was not given a chance to find a sitter. That doesn't make them, cruel, irresponsible, stupid, lazy, etc. It is a shitty situation and hopefully it can be resolved. And to everyone asking if they can just pick the puppy up from the pound after their vacation, wtf? A pound is not a pet sitter, find a pet sitter then go and get your puppy back after the appropriate arrangements have been made. The only dumb thing you did was not plan all of this better from the start OP, doesn't make you a horrible person, you just didn't think it through.
