Today, I automated a task at work and a day-long procedure ran in a few hours. My boss was completely unimpressed because "I'm not paid to automate stuff, I'm paid to work". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Teamwork works
Today, I had a huge amount of work to get through. Two colleagues offered to help, because one had nothing else to do, and the other couldn't work until I was done. My boss got really pissed at me for "making" them do my job and wasting their time. FML
Monday, Monday, so good to me…
Today, I was scolded by my boss, all because I can finish most tasks in a quarter of the time it takes him, and he doesn't want to be shown up. FML
It stinks!
Today, my boss is forcing my team to prove his AI project saves time. It doesn't, and it's mainly just RSS feeds. A few years ago, when I shared with him how these automated feeds could help us avoid doing extra work, he told our team not to use them. He never said why. FML
Unionize!
Today, at work, my computer started acting up. I told my boss I could fix it, but he told me to call the IT department instead. Neither the IT technician or his supervisor could figure it out, so I showed them what was wrong and how to fix it. I was promptly fired for wasting 2 hours of company time. FML
Self report
Today, at work, I had to analyze timecards data and generate a report on the least billed / occupied people at work. I found myself at the bottom. I sent it to my boss too. FML
Runner up
Today, I finished a huge project for work. It took 3+ days and I was very proud of it. Except when I submitted it to my boss, he said that he'd already asked another person to do it. He used that person's project, not mine. FML
Cost effective
Today, my boss told me I’m doing too much overtime, and that it’s draining our budget. I never volunteer for overtime, I don’t need it. Every bit of overtime I do is shit he says I have to do to meet deadlines, most of which are just the parts of his job he can’t be bothered to learn how to do himself. FML
Shut up already!
Today, I thought working through the holidays would mean little to do and the boss telling me stories all day. Actually, it meant having loads to do, while my boss was telling me stories regardless, effectively keeping me from doing the work he is paying me for. FML
Overachiever
Today, due to being stressed and overwhelmed by my tasks, I made a mistake and completed a few of my colleagues' tasks as well. When I informed my boss about it, he said that I did an outstanding job, but I shouldn't have messed with other people's documents. As a result, my promised raise is cancelled. FML
Today, my idiot of a boss yelled at me because it's physically impossible for me to be in two places at the same time, and that I'm not a magician. He didn't understand that. FML

Perhaps you should go talk to his boss and take your boss's job.

What an ass,but be careful not to automate yourself out of a job.

I’ve had the fun chance to automate a lot of processes in the past. You do it, don’t tell anybody and enjoy your extra time to read FMLs.

NEVER tell your boss you automated your job! He’ll just get rid of you. Use your workflow to knock out your work in a few hours and spend the rest of the day goofing off.

I would've asked "huh, so what do you get paid to do"?

The fact that you were able to automate your task means you are too smart for your job. Start looking for a job that will not only challenge you but pay better and reward you for your accomplishments.

If only it was that easy, and most companies actually hired those based on how capable they are. If it were true, his boss would obviously not have a job.

Ok here's what you do next time you have an idea to automate something that will probably save your company money: 1. You write down exactly what idea you have 2. You make a rough summary of the cost and savings the company would get by implementing said improvement. 3. You lay down the idea and summary of cost and improvement in an appealing way on at most two sites. 4. You make a email/letter to the company heads (heads is important, sent it to more than one) 5. You speak with at least one of the head honchos beforehand and roughly lay out your idea and tell him you want him to check the idea 6. You offer to implement the idea as a test run but want to get a part of the savings after it has been successfully implemented 7. If you get the Okay implement it and enjoy a bit of money on the side.
