Today, I asked my mom why she drinks. She said she only drinks when she's depressed. My step-dad said she only drinks on the weekend. Those are the days I'm at her house. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I asked my mother why she didn't drink. She laughed and said, "The last time I drank was the night you were conceived. I didn't need any other disasters." FML
Glass houses and all that
Today, my mum got upset with me for having my first hangover ever after being of legal drinking age for over 6 years. She is a closet alcoholic in denial who hides red wine bottles around the house. FML
Denial
Today, my mom left the house in the morning, leaving me alone. I called and I got no answer. Hours later, she finally answers one of my calls and tells me that she'd been in an AA meeting all this time. Happy, I tell her to come home. She came home drunk. FML
Today, my mom told me she wasn't an alcoholic because she doesn't get "black out drunk" daily. She only gets drunk enough to slur her words and reek of alcohol daily, so it's okay. FML
Slippery slope
Today, my mom celebrated a year's sobriety by having a couple of beers with her boyfriend. FML
Today, I came home to find my mom drunk. She asked me for a hug and then started crying, "Where's my daughter?" I'm her daughter. And her only child, as far as I know. FML
Today, after weeks of drinking my mom's vodka and replacing it with water, it now only tastes like water. She has a habit of drinking on Fridays. Today is Friday. My life is a ticking time bomb. FML
Boozehound
Today, my once-alcoholic mom told me that she would sell me for a shot of vodka. FML
Today, as usual, my mom got shitfaced and started berating me for something. This time, it was for missing a therapy appointment. Not only am I unable to drive, it was her appointment. For her alcoholism. FML
Ranting and raving
Today, my mom sent me a text message, asking me why I blocked her on Facebook. I didn't. She blocked me, after drinking a bottle of wine. After having a conversation telling me that I need to go to AA and detox. I didn't have anything to drink, and have been limiting alcohol. FML

Well that's why the op didn't involve you in their FML post...
ShroomsOnAcid 17
Why? Because you're not depressed?

If you can't beat em, join em. And if you can't make her happy, might as well make her more miserable. :D

Sorry to say OP but she sounds like a shitty mother to me

There are too many awful parents in the world.
ShroomsOnAcid 17
True, but you can't go around judging OPs mom based only on the information we're provided in this fml. Everybody has their reasons.
Wheredidgrungego 12
Also true, but it's implied here that OP depresses his/her mom, and is thus the reason for her drinking. If you don't even like your own child, then why have kids? Stuff like that just baffles me.
ShroomsOnAcid 17
That's like saying if you don't like pie, don't eat. You don't get to pick the kind of child you will get. You also don't have full control over how they turn out, despite what many people seem to believe. Also, just because you're of the same blood, does not automatically make you compatible personality-wise, or shield you against psycho offspring. It can be very hard to get along or love each other sometimes. OP's mother could feel like a failure over it, and/or OP could be at fault and not realize it. You don't really know. But is it not depressing? Have some compassion and try to understand everybody's side of the situation.

Maybe she drinks because you live with your stepdad and you being around is a reminder of that?
divadro102 16
He sees his stepdad while he sees his mom. They're under the same roof.
fbethslife 21
You do know that OP's "step-dad" has to be married to his/her mom, right? That's kind of what the term implies. lol
Nukey 2
That's not always true, my step dad was going to take custody of me when he and my mother almost divorced. He would have still been my stepdad but they wouldn't have been married. That's sort of a narrow assumption. :/
