Today, I asked my grandmother to hem my prom dress for me. I'm her oldest granddaughter so I thought she'd be happy to do it. She said no. Her occupation is a seamstress. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my grandmother tried to upstage me at my wedding by wearing an actual wedding dress because she "never had a real wedding". FML
Tailored
Today, I went shopping with my grandma. Told her I saw a pretty dress I liked. She asked me who would fit in that? When I replied they have it in different sizes. She replied with, "Yeah but definitely not yours.". FML
Today, my grandmother patched up my $300, vintage, limited edition, designer jeans because she thought I'd accidentally ripped them. FML
Today, I found out my grandmother doesn't wear underwear when she bent over in front of me in her inappropriately short nightgown. FML
Family heirloom
Today, I got the dress I gave to a tailor to replace a broken zipper back. When I tried it on, I discovered that they’d cut at least 4 inches of fabric, and being skinny, there’s no way I can ever fit into it. It’s from the 1950’s, inherited from my late grandma, who in turn inherited it from her aunt. FML
Today, my mom asked me to help pick out clothes for my grandma to wear in her casket. I didn't know she'd died. FML
Today, I was trying on a dress at my grandmother's house. When I posed for her, she told me she would expand the waist, because I won't be sucking in the whole time I would be wearing it. The joke's on you Grandma, I've been sucking my stomach in since I was twelve years old. FML
Tight
Today, I tried on a dress for prom. It took a while to zip, but I insisted it'd fit. I asked for help. When the lady finally managed to zip all the way, the dress completely ripped at the seams. Not only did I have to pay $169 for it, but the lady told me, “We have more dresses in the plus-sized section!” FML
Today, my grandmother and I turned up to a family function wearing the same outfit. FML
Today, some idiot introduced my grandmother to yoga pants. FML

Some people feel used when family asks them for free labor. Maybe you should have offered to do something nice in return?

I don't think it is that common to know how to hem a dress.

My grandma is the very opposite. She will take our clothes to hem them without us knowing.

Something tells me you threw it at her at the last minute and expected her to rush it for you just because you're her granddaughter. Like you said, her occupation is being a seamstress. Paying customers come before spoiled relatives looking for free services.

Maybe you should offer her money. Only reason I would say no is because I'm always doing it for you other than that, I'm not too fond of the family members who always want money.

This could have easily been turned into an opportunity to learn and teach something useful, by asking her to show you how to hem a dress.

I fix computers for a living and I sure don't want to fix my family's computer problems (or friends for that matter) on my spare time. Maybe if you had asked her to teach you the answer would have been different.

I don't blame her, she probably wants to forget about work when she's home.

You're not entitled to her skills, especially for free. Maybe she needs the money.
