Today, despite driving extremely slowly and cautiously, we slid off the road due to ice and snow. The car hit a rock and the airbags deployed. We were in my 3-month-old car because the engine in my husband's truck blew last week. Merry Christmas to us. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I slid on ice and hit another car while driving to work. My car was totalled, and my leg hurt, while the other car had very little damage. Not two minutes later, the salt truck drove by, spraying the road. FML
Today, while driving home from work, I heard a loud crash immediately followed by the sound of wind and shifting glass over my head. My sunroof exploded for no perceptible reason 5 days before Christmas. FML
Freakout
Today, I noticed there was a red truck following me. I walked as fast as I could. I then ran. It followed. I slipped on some ice and fell. I was unable to get up. It stopped beside me and the driver got out. I then said hello to my husband's new car. FML
Today, I lost control of my car on a patch of ice and slid off the road, messing up my car. I was working on a news story about bad road conditions. FML
Treacherous weather
Today, as I was driving to a conference two hours away, a giant piece of ice fell off a truck and did severe damage to my car's hood and busted the front light. The car was a few months old with around 5000 miles on it. FML
Have yourself a merry little Xmas
Today, on Christmas Eve, as I was getting my car loaded for the holiday rounds to the in-laws and parents, my car decided now was the time to break down. I recently put in over $1000 fixing it. FML
Today, I was driving home, when a truck overtook me. Two of the Christmas trees it was carrying fell off straight into my bumper. The car behind me pulled over, but instead of seeing if I was okay, he just went to see whether or not either of the trees was in good enough shape to take home. FML
Today, I hit a patch of black ice and totaled my car. The car is a month old. For the next 5 years I'll be paying for a car I can't drive. FML
Today, the air bag system in my car somehow malfunctioned, and the air bag inflated while I was driving, causing me to lose control and crash into a street light. I ended up with a badly bruised face because the air bag had already deflated by then. FML
Today, I was run over by my own car as I tried to push it out of a snowbank. FML

At least a 3 month old wasn't in the car like I originally thought this FML was going

That's what insurance is for. You guys are ok, which is what really matters. Cars can be replaced. People can't.

Time for a new car. Luckily there is a smart car vending machince in Japan! Put in $25,000 and see what happens.

So the next time they get in an accident they can die instead? Those smart cars are ridiculous

I thought the same.

Yeah, that tends to happen on ice. try focusing on the fact that you and your spouse are okay.

glad you're ok. don't know if you had them or not, but regardless of what tire experts tell you, snow tires are not obsolete, and are better that the best all season tire. Not saying you cant slide off the road with them, but it's a lot less likely.
kskjon 12
The only safe option in the winter is snow tires. Do really "experts" say otherwise?
paintbullits 13
Who says snow tires are obsolete? Studded tires are a necessity here 4 to 5 months of the year. Driving on summers or "all seasons" is equivalent to maybe racing slicks.

If it isn't safe to drive you shouldn't be driving. You knew that it wasn't safe to drive yet you chose to do it, that's on you.

Yeah, because it's really an option for people to just stay home. You may have no life but that doesn't mean everyone doesn't have one

they most likely weren't using snow tires or chains. which would make it their fault entirely. Social lives they have, sense they do not.
americanafrican 32
it's not legal to use chains everywhere. sometimes you have to risk it.

If you live in Colorado, why buy a car that's not functional in snow and ice?

YDI for driving in conditions beyond your ability.
