Today, at the store, I noticed a girl eyeing a chocolate bunny. Her mom refused to buy it, saying they didn't have enough money. She started crying, so I decided to make her day and offered to buy it for her. Her mom reacted by slapping me across the face and calling me a "pedo." FML

Op, here. I'm fifteen years old and am absolutely not a pedo. I am a boy and thought that I was doing something good for the girl. All of the comments about healthy eating habits are not true, the woman was buying a lot of candy, but wouldn't let the girl have the rabbit. Idk why, she reminded me of my little cousin and I decided to buy it for her. The mother did keep the rabbit, though, so I don't know why she lashed out at me :/

If she really couldn't afford the candy that would have been a nice gesture, but if she was just saying that so her kid would stop asking she could have found a nicer way to tell you no. Im not sure why women have this sense of entitlement that they can slap or physically assault men with no repercussions you should have slapped her back for being a bitch.

Politeness is becoming a rare thing, so it is often misinterpreted.

Never ever ever offer anything directly to a kid. They get excited and you've just robbed the parent of the chance to make a parenting choice (without looking like a bad guy). ALWAYS offer the gift to the parent first and let them give it to the kid. Doesn't matter what the gift is, the parent might have a good reason to keep it away from their kid. You don't have the right to step on that.

Exactly! I am close with my coworkers' children but I always tell them to ask their parents first if they want something from me even if it's juice.

Parents these days can be super overprotective, but I wouldn't recommend buying something for a child that you don't know, OP

You really have no right to offer to buy some stranger's kid something, especially if the parent doesn't ask you or give their consent first. So the parent is not a douche, OP is.

People these days are just plain rude. You should have reported her people shouldn't be able to get away with things like that

While that was really rude of the mom to do, you should have asked her before you bought the bunny. The mother could have had a good reason for not buying the chocolate, but didn't want to fully explain to her daughter, so the "not enough money" excuse had to do.
