Today, at my prestigious sous chef job, I was preparing to plate up expensive entrees for a function of 150 people. After arriving to work 2 hours early to finalize finishing touches, they call the restaurant 5 minutes before their booking stating, 'We can't be bothered anymore, sorry.' FML

Today, at work, I got to wait on one of those tables where everyone had very complex orders, and some of them sent their food back. When the time finally came for me to bring them their check and receive my well-earned tip, I returned only to discover that they'd dined and dashed. FML
Today, at work, 5 minutes after I'd sent my help home, we got an 83 dollar order. I'm the only cook. FML
Today, I came in to work early at a restaurant to help out. I stocked, baked pies for the next day, cleaned and set over 50 tables, and vacuumed the entire two stories. When I went to send an order for the first customer of mine, I realized I hadn't even clocked on. Four and half hours of work wasted. FML
Today, as a restaurant manager, I had a large party of difficult guests. They sat in their private room they'd reserved for three-and-a-half hours, then caused a huge scene when it was time to pay. One guy even ran at me like he was going to hit me. FML
Today, I was at a fancy restaurant with my boss, trying to make a good impression. I ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, only to later realize I'd forgotten my wallet. My boss had to pay for the meal, and I'm wondering if my job in accounting is now on the line. FML
Today, I had my first shift as a server at a restaurant after getting stuck behind an accident and arriving late, apologizing profusely. Apparently no one knew I'd been hired but I was still yelled at for tardiness. They then made me clean a fridge for 4 hours and paid me in pizza. FML
Today, my boss replaced me, with my 25 years experience, as head chef with her son, who has a GCSE in food studies from 15 years ago and hasn’t even worked a restaurant before. I’m sitting here, watching our customers send food back untouched because it’s so bad. This has ruined us. FML
Today, I was doing my first shift waitressing in a café. Not an hour in, I'd already spilt tea over somebody and dropped two whole meals. Looks like this won't last much longer. FML
Today, I was out having a nice dinner to celebrate being hired for a job I was really excited for after two places didn't work out in a year. In the middle of dinner, I got an email from the director informing me that the school has to close due to lead levels in the building. FML
Today, my boss told me they were letting me go because they "could no longer afford to pay me." Never mind the catered lunch they had the day before, which cost more than a week's worth of my salary. FML

Doesn't your job have some kind of policy for that? I mean, they can't just cancel orders.. I hope they gotta pay for it, but still a huge bummer for you. Sorry OP!

So what happens in the situation? Because of the size and it sounds preordered, do they still have to pay a %? Or is it just a we didn't go so we don't pay type of thing? Also that sucks you did all that work for nothing. Hopefully you still got paid for the time you put in no matter what though! Hopefully you got to eat the expensive food. Haha.

I am quite sure they still have to pay their fees regardless. Maybe all the staff could sit down and enjoy the food with homeless people. Don't throw the food out. I am sure there are many people out there who are struggling who would welcome an amazing meal you helped prepare.

Anywhere I've ever worked, anything over a party of 20 requires a minimum 300 dollar deposit and goes up from there based on the size of the group. Sucks that all your hard work was in vain. At least you're still getting paid.

I feel certain that they paid for the meal but the OP is simply FML about the all the extra work that was for nothing just annoying and discouraging the guy is an artist of food presentation and wants to be appreciated properly absolutely FML

hopefully there's a law or something that makes them pay, but you should totally host an event for the homeless with all that left over food
