Today, at 3:00 am, I sat with my 3 year-old daughter while she tried to go back to sleep. She'd had a nightmare, and I'd read that "not leaving" was the most important thing a father could do. My wife woke and called me a pervert for sitting there. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Spooked
Today, I was trying to sleep when I saw a head looming from the darkness with no eyes and a mouth open like a silent scream. I just froze and pissed myself. It was my daughter wanting to cuddle with us. Alas, the bed was wet, so she got put back in her bed, while we had to share the sofa downstairs. FML
Helpless
Today, my husband actually helped put our 4 year-old to bed because I was watching my nephews, who were about to be picked up. When I was sitting with my nephews in the living room, he yelled for me to help with our daughter. I said I couldn’t and he told me to shut up. I put her to bed every other night. FML
Boundaries
Today, my son climbed into our bed because he'd had a nightmare. He and my wife spent hours whispering and giggling like they were at a slumber party. Cute, until the next morning, when they were both tired, grumpy, and uncooperative. FML
Sleepless in Singapore
Today, I was having trouble sleeping due to jet lag. I was finally sleepy and looking forward to a decent night of rest when my 4 year-old woke up and refused to stay in his room or try to rest. The next two hours involved him shouting at me, kicking me, and crying because he wanted Daddy, who is on a business trip. FML
Burn out
Today, I'm dead on my feet after being awake since 1AM with the baby. I begged my wife to watch both the baby and our four year-old for an hour while I napped. She refused, and instead said she needed a rest more. Her reason? “I might need to do a shit later.” FML
How sweet
Today, my 3-year-old fell asleep in our bed while cuddling me, and I let him stay since he was being so sweet. In the middle of the night, he took off his pants and pissed all over my head and back. FML
Mystery man
Today, as I was taking my three year-old daughter home from daycare, she asked where her daddy was. I tried to tell her that I was her father, but she answered, "No, not you! My other daddy!" I've got some talking to do tonight. FML
Today, my 2-year-old daughter and my 27-year-old husband both woke me up in the early hours of the morning. Their complaints were the same: they'd both wet the bed. FML
Today, my daughter hugged me around the neck and whispered, "I'm going to cut your head off." I'm afraid to go to sleep now. FML
Today, it's 3:42 a.m. and my son is crying because I won't let him play with his dirty diaper. FML

Hopefully she was just joking? And, I mean, it was 3am, she was probably out of it anyway. No worries, you did the right thing and it's good that you're not letting her come into your own bed when those things happen because then they'll do it all the time. That's how it was with my brothers, atleast.

If she's serious, then she's clearly not cut out for parenthood - certainly not adoption. She's your DAUGHTER, and the fact you adopted shouldn't make a difference - your wife should understand, and shouldn't even be able to CONSIDER that. You should leave her, both because she doesn't appreciate and understand you AT ALL, and because she clearly doesn't feel the same way as you do about the adoption.

Aww! I think that's sweet! If you keep those seemingly insignificant things up, you'll have a "daddy's little girl" so keep it up, it's worth it! I agree it's strange your wife is basically saying she doesn't think of her as your "real" daughter.... Maybe you need to talk to her about it... saying even small things like that may become dangerous in the future. I hope she was joking... not funny though.

Did you have your hand on the kid's ass or something? Seriously, there has to be something else here, there has to be more to the story or some undercurrent of resentment (TM, Dr Phil Industries) about your relationship with your daughter and the effect it has had on your relationship with your wife. This is further accentuated by your need to qualify that this is your "adopted" daughter. We are really quick to say divorce, ****, bitch, and so-on - but I don't need Scooby Doo and the ******* Mystery Machine to tell me something is missing from this little saga.

I don't believe that there is something missing here at all. I think that OP was just taken aback that his wife would say that to him in the first place. Stop being so damn judgemental!

jwsmythe, #15, I understand most of ur point, but it is very stereotypical. Not all teenagers are "annoying" as you claim. I myself am frequently told how impressed adults are by my behavior, because they too had stereotypes against teenagers. People like u are the reason why I can't walk around my local grocery store with some friends without getting suspicious looks.

Don't go getting your cockles up about something that's neither here nor there. And yes, coming from someone who just got out of her teen years and also worked with teenagers as a volunteer for a couple years, you may not notice it (as he stated above), but a portion of your (as well as all teenage) personality is annoying. The mere fact that you're complaining about something so trivial as being called annoying proves the point. I was raved about by adults too. But I was still annoying. Which is why FML has become the teenage/preteen hellhole that it is. Because *all teenagers are annoying*.

I think there is something missing to this story...

im confused. is this this wife's daughter & he adopted her, or did they adopt this child together? because if they adopted the child together, why would he say "adopted daughter" because wouldn't you consider it your DAUGHTER not adopted daughter? that's strange in itself. but if it's the wife's daughter, and she walked in and you were just with the child that would appear creepy, if she didn't know why you were there (to comfort her) but if she knew why you were there then your wife is a meany.
