Today, at 3:00 am, I sat with my 3 year-old daughter while she tried to go back to sleep. She'd had a nightmare, and I'd read that "not leaving" was the most important thing a father could do. My wife woke and called me a pervert for sitting there. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Spooked
Today, I was trying to sleep when I saw a head looming from the darkness with no eyes and a mouth open like a silent scream. I just froze and pissed myself. It was my daughter wanting to cuddle with us. Alas, the bed was wet, so she got put back in her bed, while we had to share the sofa downstairs. FML
Helpless
Today, my husband actually helped put our 4 year-old to bed because I was watching my nephews, who were about to be picked up. When I was sitting with my nephews in the living room, he yelled for me to help with our daughter. I said I couldn’t and he told me to shut up. I put her to bed every other night. FML
Boundaries
Today, my son climbed into our bed because he'd had a nightmare. He and my wife spent hours whispering and giggling like they were at a slumber party. Cute, until the next morning, when they were both tired, grumpy, and uncooperative. FML
Sleepless in Singapore
Today, I was having trouble sleeping due to jet lag. I was finally sleepy and looking forward to a decent night of rest when my 4 year-old woke up and refused to stay in his room or try to rest. The next two hours involved him shouting at me, kicking me, and crying because he wanted Daddy, who is on a business trip. FML
Burn out
Today, I'm dead on my feet after being awake since 1AM with the baby. I begged my wife to watch both the baby and our four year-old for an hour while I napped. She refused, and instead said she needed a rest more. Her reason? “I might need to do a shit later.” FML
How sweet
Today, my 3-year-old fell asleep in our bed while cuddling me, and I let him stay since he was being so sweet. In the middle of the night, he took off his pants and pissed all over my head and back. FML
Mystery man
Today, as I was taking my three year-old daughter home from daycare, she asked where her daddy was. I tried to tell her that I was her father, but she answered, "No, not you! My other daddy!" I've got some talking to do tonight. FML
Today, my 2-year-old daughter and my 27-year-old husband both woke me up in the early hours of the morning. Their complaints were the same: they'd both wet the bed. FML
Today, my daughter hugged me around the neck and whispered, "I'm going to cut your head off." I'm afraid to go to sleep now. FML
Today, it's 3:42 a.m. and my son is crying because I won't let him play with his dirty diaper. FML

Hopefully she was just joking? And, I mean, it was 3am, she was probably out of it anyway. No worries, you did the right thing and it's good that you're not letting her come into your own bed when those things happen because then they'll do it all the time. That's how it was with my brothers, atleast.

If she's serious, then she's clearly not cut out for parenthood - certainly not adoption. She's your DAUGHTER, and the fact you adopted shouldn't make a difference - your wife should understand, and shouldn't even be able to CONSIDER that. You should leave her, both because she doesn't appreciate and understand you AT ALL, and because she clearly doesn't feel the same way as you do about the adoption.

Either your wife is a total bitch, or you set off her creep alert. I don't know if this is a FYL or YDI, but either way, it's an FHL for the kid.

Your wife sounds like a ******* bitch. If she doesn't like you being a good dad, then make her stupid ass do all the work. It's her little bastard anyway.

I'm not going to say anything bad about your wife because that is, after all, your wife. Not only that, but I don't know what kind of childhood she had that would lead her mind to jump to that conclusion automatically. However, I do think that you guys need to have a serious talk if she is going to flip out about you parenting.

Charlie - totally agree. Also being 3 in the morning - she might have been abused when she was younger and jumping to conclusions.

You did the right thing.

To be honest, the fact you even called we your "adopted" daughter instead of your daughter gives me a little pang in it chest, being adopted myself... To the humor-something person who commented before, that just made me horribly sad. as some advice: never call your daughter that, because I know from experience that seeing your parents call you their "adopted" daughter instead of their daughter hurts a lot. It a good that you were trying to comfort her, and I would speak to your wife if I were you. It'll cause trouble in the future if she thinks comforting your daughter is perverted.

Yeah, that's crap. There are a surprising number of people, a lot of them women, who seem to believe there are only two types of men: those who ignore children and those who molest them. I don't know who I feel more sorry for - the men who get distrust and abuse dumped on them for caring about children, or the poor children that are denied caring and closeness from their fathers and father figures.

Good book though ;) And OP, your wife over-reacted a bit didn't she?!! You did the right thing making sure your adopted daughter was ok..."not leaving" is definitely important - children feel safer knowing there is someone who will be there to look after them if they need it :)

What a stupid bitch. Good for you for being there for your adopted daughter when she needed you.
