Today, after parking in the handicapped spot of a lot with my placard, an older couple with their 7-year-old grandchild came up and yelled at me for being a lying asshole and taking the parking spot. When I showed them my prosthetic leg, the kid started crying and guess who got yelled at again. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I parked in a "Disabled" space. A woman and her kids comes yelling at me about how I don't look disabled and I was just being selfish. I roll my pants up to reveal two prosthetic legs. She then yells at me that I should have warned her before showing my legs since it could scare her kids. FML
Today, I told a guy he should be ashamed of himself for parking in a handicapped space. He hit me with his prosthetic leg. FML
Today, as I was getting out of my car, an old and obese lady walked up to me and called me an "inconsiderate heartless bitch" for using the last handicap parking spot. I guess she didn't see my wheelchair. FML
People just suck
Today, I was so happy to finally get my disabled parking badge but I was not prepared for the abuse from members of the public because I don’t "look disabled." Just this morning a woman refused to believe I have a prosthetic foot, and tried to make me pull up my pant leg to show her. FML
Assumptions
Today, I noticed a flashy car badly parking itself in a handicapped space. I hate the asshats who do this, so I went up to berate the driver. After an opening salvo of coarse language, a glint of light on his wheelchair in the back caught my eye. I then had to apologise for being a shitehawk. FML
Step on the gas
Today, I parked in a disabled bay so I could drop my son off at his appointment. My son uses crutches and has a blue badge. As I was trying to leave, an absolute Karen started chewing my ass for using a disabled bay while “not looking disabled”, then lay under my wheels to stop me leaving. FML
Today, a co-worker and I walked out of our office at the same time. He got in his car, which was parked right out front. I asked him what I had to do to get a sweet parking spot like that. He rolled up his pant leg and show me his prosthesis. He was in the handicapped spot. FML
Today, I got harassed and screamed at by a middle-aged man for parking in a spot close to the store, because he wanted the same spot so he didn't have to walk so far with his groceries. He took a photo and vowed to report me to the authorities. FML
Thanks, I hate it
Today, I received a $250 ticket when I parked my car, that has the disabled placard, in a handicapped spot at a Wal-Mart. The officer said she watched me get out of the car and walk to store without appearing to be disabled. I'm 59 years old, have a steel rod in my spine and a prosthetic hip. FML
Today, I got back to my car with a note cussing me out for parking in a disabled space when I’m clearly not disabled. They also smashed my windows. It’s true, I’m not disabled, but I also wasn’t parked in a disabled space. I was parked in a normal space next to the disabled spaces. FML

Oh my God. I'm so sorry that happened to you. The nerve of some people. At least you know the second time they yelled at you... it's because they knew they looked stupid the first time.

What a good example they are for that child.

some people have no respect whatsoever

Thats terrible! My grandma has a prosthetic leg and people always stare and point. After a while you just get used to it and brush it off. But I wouldn't worry about it, they should be more understanding. Hope all goes well

Am I the only one who honestly truly doesn't get handicapp parking spots

it's for the handicapped person to be closer to his goal. imagine someone with a wheelchair trying to cross the entire parking lot, which is mostly fairly large. the people that are entitled to that spot have difficulties and those spots were made to help them and make it easier for them

Yes.

How can you not "get" them? They're there so that people with disabilities can have a closer parking space and don't have to walk the entire length of the car park and wider accommodate any aids they may need such as wheel chairs, crutches or service animals...... This really is a common sense thing

Even if a person has more minor physical issues, getting out of a car with the door less than fully open can be hard for some people.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
You should've legged it out of there.

You were clearly trying to make a pun, but what the hell were you trying to say in the first place?
RabbitOfAurora 28
The phrase "leg it" means run as fast your legs can carry you because otherwise you're ******. Leg it, prosthetic leg... Now you should understand.

Some people love to pick fights. Walk it off, OP. They're just some jerks with nothing better to do than yell at people.
WOTAN1488 24
Two words: **** them.

Might upset the child even more though...

They're gonna yell at you for proving you've got a prosthetic leg? I'd yell at them right back. Who cares if they're elderly? **** that, they're human too.

Yea, if that happened to me, I would uave been only mildly irritated, but if they yelled at me a second time, I'd go ape shit on them.

People need to mind their business! Handicaps are not always visible. I'm sorry you were verbally abused OP!

I am glad that you pointed out that not all handicaps are visible. Although my son has autism, which is special needs, he has a handicap placard as well. he is unaware of safety even though we continually teach him, and we always have his hand. But. the pass keeps us from having a longer walk which could cause him to dart because of interest in cars, you know? His issue isn't seen either. We too have gotten pretty disgusted looks and side comments.
