Today, after getting home from work late last night and feeling lazy, I'd put my leftover dinner in the microwave, spoon and all. I wake up to find one of the kids started the microwave and it blew up because of the metal spoon. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Fireworks
Today, I tried to warm soup in a travel mug. I forgot to take the metal spoon out. The microwave lit up like a firework display, and I screamed so loudly that my neighbor knocked on my door to check if I was alive. FML
Today, I learned the hard way that if you tell your child that they're old enough to cook their own food in the microwave, you have to make sure they're smart enough not to put the metal spoon in with the food as well. FML
One night
Today, I woke up after putting my child to bed. Drowsy, I stumbled down to the kitchen to make a mug cookie. I read a recipe on my phone, and put a knob of butter in a cup to melt in the microwave. I put my phone in the microwave and turned it on for 30 seconds, and didn't realize what I'd done until I smelt burning plastic. FML
Can't feel my tongue
Today, I was using the same metal spoon to stir boiling noodles and the pasta sauce I was heating up. I decided to taste the sauce and see if it was getting warm, forgetting that the spoon was sitting in boiling water three seconds earlier. FML
First day
Today, I started a new job and wanted to seem organized, so I brought a homemade lunch in a container. I went to heat it up, but forgot to remove the lid completely. The container exploded in the microwave, covering the inside with sauce. I spent my lunch break cleaning it while my coworkers smirked. FML
Fireworks
Today, I tried to microwave a leftover burrito. I forgot to remove the foil it was wrapped in. The microwave went into overdrive in a dramatic display of sparks, the fire alarm went off, and I had to convince the neighbors at my door not to evacuate their apartments. I still haven’t eaten. FML
Today, I left my daughter with a babysitter for the first time. When I came home, my microwave was ruined because they had attempted to heat cans of Play-Doh as a science experiment. FML
BURNED
Today, I reheated leftover pasta at work. I forgot to crack a vent on the container and it exploded in the microwave. Sauce coated the inside, so I spent my lunch break scrubbing while coworkers waited awkwardly to heat their food. The smell is still hanging in the office air. FML
Sneaking about
Today, after spending an exhausting amount of time trying to stay quiet so I didn’t wake my housemates, even to the point of catching the microwave before it went off, I dropped my bowl of food right in the middle of the hallway between the bedrooms with a loud clang. FML
Today, I got burned, all because the toaster scared me while I was holding a pot of boiling water. FML

Why would you put leftovers in the room-temperature microwave and go to sleep? That’s a recipe for food poisoning! Your kid saved the family.

Why was it easier to toss it in the microwave as opposed to the fridge???

You are not going to die because your plate stayed a few hours at room temperature... unless you live in a very unhealthy environment.

Ya think? I once got sick from left-out food with concurrent vomiting and diarrhea. Death is going to be easy compared to that!

Put a Doritos bag in the microwave for 5 seconds. It shrinks to about 1 inch but looks exactly the same

why would your kids start the microwave ? obviously they hadn't opened it first to put something in it so I dont understand why they would turn it on.

It depends on the age (or education / intelligence) of the child. I'd assume they saw food in it, didn't know that metal doesn't belong in the microwave (or simply didn't see it, not expecting it to be there) and thought it's for them.

Wtf! How is it easier to put food in the microwave than it is to put it in the fridge??? It’s quite literally the same motion to open both in most cases. You remind me of someone I know that will not use DVD’s (she only streams her entertainment) because she HATES changing the disks. Not sure who is lazier, you or her. This is definitely a YDI.

Fridges keep things fresh because they're cold, not because of the door. Thus a microwave doesn't have the same effect.

damn you lucky your kid didn't get killed I saw a microwave blow up from that before and it literally shot shrapnel all over the kitchen 😱

The operative word is lazy. The fridge would have made more sense and if the microwave is the only choice (a bad one) at least remove the metal.
