Today, a telemarketer called my house phone and asked for my grandpa. We were in the middle of having his wake. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Who is this?
Today, a telemarketer called and asked if they could speak to my "Mommy or Daddy." I'm 25 years old. FML
Foot in mouth
Today, my grandpa died. I called my grandma to make sure she was going to be fine. After talking over the phone for 30 minutes or so, I told her goodbye and said, out of habit, "Say hi to grandpa for me". FML
Today, my grandma picked up the phone. It was a man asking to speak to me. Instead of giving me the phone she decides to hang up on him, thinking it was some guy trying to "get with me." It turned out to be the call I've been waiting all week for... a call from a huge company about a job offer. FML
Today, my phone rang while I was home alone. When I picked up, all I could hear was heavy breathing. Convinced it was one of my friends playing a joke, I said loudly, "Get off the phone, you fucker, and don't call back!" It turned out it was my grandma. She had been having a stroke. FML
Today, I received a phone call from my 91-year-old grandpa. He was lost driving somewhere in my town. I then spent the next few hours trying to teach him how to send his location until his phone died. FML
Another one bites the dust
Today, I called a guy who had requested a free marketing consultation for his funeral home through the internet a couple of days ago. When I got through, the receptionist seemed a little taken back by me wanting to talk to him. He had died and was buried yesterday. FML
Brain freeze
Today, I work at a hospice center. At 3AM, a call just went out to a man's family to come because he was dying. I didn't realize that this man was my old friend's grandpa. When I saw her, I smiled really big and said, "Hey! Great to see you!" Her grandpa was ACTIVELY DYING. Stupid stupid stupid. FML
Not now, Doris
Today, my mom is in the hospital and I'm sitting by the phone in case anyone calls with news. Each time the phone rings, I bolt upright to answer it. So far I've been woken up by two telemarketers, three robo-calls, and some old lady asking for Doris, who doesn't live here. I can't turn my phone off. FML
Jinxed
Today, my phone made a random noise. I jokingly said, "Wow, I wonder who died now?" Turns out it was my son's grandmother. I had to explain it because I screamed. I also got to tell his dad that his mom just died. FML
Panic!
Today, my grandfather showed up at my house in a panic. He rushed over, with a gun, because I wasn't answering his texts and he thought something had happened to me. I was asleep. FML

Death is pretty much the only way to escape annoying advertising. Very sorry to hear about your grandfather . May he Rest In Peace

My condolences op. Telemarketers are the worst. Wish they would just do away with that industry.

Yeah, now is when they start coming out of the woodwork. My mom started getting insane amounts of calls after my dad passed away. These companies are run by scumbags.

Also blocking their number, asking to be put on a "Do Not Call" list, threatening them as a last resort, or not having a house phone. We get so many more calls on the landline than on our cells, but we still keep it as a convenience to contact those without cells at home. We just go ballistic on telemarketers now. ;) they get to a point of rage triggering. They still call about our grandparents who died 11 years ago. Morons.

Something very similar happened to me on the day my grandfather died. Some people are just scumbags.

It would be awesome if your grandpa could personally tell those scumbags to **** right off. My condolences, OP. RIP, OP's Grandpa!

Maybe you could have invited it to the wake.

Burglars often target the home of the recently deceased, as death notices are basically advertising an empty house. They learn of their death in newspapers or something similar and will call up the home before breaking in to make sure that it is empty. Be careful.

I feel sorry for the poor people who are paid to do evil work like that.

"Grandpa can't come to the phone right now. I'm pretty sure Grandma will pass along your message in a couple years."
