The road to Hell is paved with good intentions
Today, my best female friend got dumped. Seeing how I was alone when I got dumped, I didn't want her to feel the same, so I was nice to her and tried to help her as much as I could. I've now been getting constant messages from our mutual friends, telling me to stop hitting on her. FML

I think telling your mutual friends to "shut the **** up" is acceptable here

Come on, man. We both know you're not supposed to offer to help her get off.

Casually remind them that being nice to somebody doesn't mean you're interested in them romantically.

To use a basketball analogy, you're going for a rebound, so you have to get past your "friends" and take it to the hole. So to speak.

if she thinks there's a problem then she will/should tell you directly. it's not really any of your mutual friends business.

If they are saying that to you I would think she is mentioning you to them. and SHE thinks you are hitting on her.

Don't give a shit at what they think, standing for a friend in need is much important than such mutual A-HOLES...

I am going through the same thing OP. I'm trying to support a friend who lost her first boyfriend after two years who also was her best friend.
