Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me by tossing the ring at me and saying "Here, wear this." FML
Today, my boyfriend of six years proposed to me. Less than three hours later, he panicked and made me give the ring back. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me with the prettiest, most simple ring I have ever seen. I called my sister to tell her the good news, and her response was, "I know. He had me steal the ring from Claire's." FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Today, my boyfriend bought me a beautiful pair of very expensive diamond earrings, along with a card that read, "To my beautiful brown eyed Princess." My ears aren't pierced, and my eyes are green. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She just grabbed the ring and said in a raspy voice, "My precious..." FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend won a diamond engagement ring through a citywide competition. Instead of proposing to me, he's selling it. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed with the biggest, tackiest, most Geordie Shore-style ring I’ve ever seen. I said yes because I love him, but this thing is twice as wide as my finger and just looks horrible compared to the solitaire ring I told him I really liked. I’m embarrassed to be seen wearing it. he might have actually saved up for it and gotten ripped off.

And you're a moron for not being able to tell the difference. You don't deserve a real rock.

Everyone is saying its the thought that counts but truthfully we all would be upset with a fake ring that you are going to wear the rest of your life turning your finger green. Plus if he cared enough he would spend that money on her so she could have a real ring.

How did it turn your finger green? Was there a lot of copper rust in the ring?

Maybe he bought the big rock against his better judgement because he thought that's what you would be expecting (which was true), and not to try and fool you. A quick trip to the local pawn shop (he is cheap, after all) would get him what he wants. Guys generally don't ask "will this ring turn her finger green?" Also, maybe the rock was real but the band was poor quality (ok, that's a stretch).

He must've went to Jared

Who cares... A ring doesn't mean shit, It is the fact that you two have each other that counts... Ask him to buy a bracelet, a necklace, earrings, etc... something else other than a ring if it is too expensive for him to buy one. Maybe he doesn't have the money? Or as someone stated maybe he went to pawn shop? Stop being selfish..

Expecting a ring that doesn't give her an allergic reaction and for her husband to not be a lying cheapskate is being selfish now? Really? So many Soapbox Suzies on FML these days.

71 - It's not an allergic reaction, it's a chemical reaction and, depending on what the ring is made out of, it will turn everyone's fingers green. It just means it's very cheap and not real.

That is very kind of him, but why is he cheap? Does he have a min wage job? He could have saved up and been ripped off. Be happy he proposed to you.

I think she'd be happy if he was honest about not being able to afford anything better. Would you take the woman you love for a fool when you wanted to start a life together with her? While he may not be able to afford a 2000 dollar ring, there is no excuse for lying to her.

I'd rather have a ring that turns my finger green than a watch that gives me a rash.

And I'd rather have a watch that gives me a rash than have my limbs chopped off. What was the point of your comment?

Oh boo hoo, I have a boyfriend who wants to marry me and didn't spend thousands of dollars on a blood diamond from Africa! How dare he be financially responsible and avoid spending money on useless things! Well let me ask you, OP: what ring did you buy your boyfriend? None at all? Then even if his ring costs 1 cent, you have no right to complain.
IOmnomHard 10
Considering OP is the female, and the woman and her side of the family usually pay, chances are she'll spend more money than he did. Oh and by the way, you come off as a colossal douche.
IOmnomHard 10
Pay for the wedding, that is.

Pay for the wedding, that is.

I can't believe you can say that with a straight face, without realizing that "the woman and her side of the family usually pay" is even more of an outdated sexist tradition than the one I'm condemning. And if I'm a douche for calling people out for buying blood diamonds, thereby funding rebel groups in Africa who force children to work in mines and chop their limbs off in front of their parents if they don't, I want to be the most colossal douche in the world.
IOmnomHard 10
If OPs boyfriend is cheap, he'll probably be in agreement that she should pay. I don't buy real jewelry, so I don't want to talk about Africa because that wasn't the part of your comment I was referring to.
