Sophie's choice
Today, my boyfriend started a six month jail stint. The last thing he gave me was his phone, on which I discovered $30,000 in credit card debt. Why didn’t I go after the guy who went to dental uni? FML

Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend of one year broke up with me. He's been in jail for the last four months. I paid for his very expensive lawyer. FML
Today, I found out that my girlfriend of almost 6 years has put me in debt over $33,000. FML
Today, my ex got arrested for stealing. His new girlfriend texted me asking if I could lend her money to bail him out. FML
Today, I learned why so much money has been missing from my credit card account. My boyfriend stole it, and has been buying toys for his 3 children. I never knew he had kids. FML
Today, I caught my boyfriend cheating right after I maxed out my credit card buying him everything on his Christmas list. FML
Today, I got a call from my boyfriend. He was at the police station for breaking into a model home to hook up with the girl he's been cheating on me with for the past four months. I was his one phone call. He was expecting me to bail him out. FML
Today, I felt things were getting serious enough with my boyfriend that it was only fair to tell him I have a lot of credit card debt from helping out my ill mom before she died. He broke up with me and called me a gold digger, even though I didn’t ask him for a single penny. FML
Today, my boyfriend of six months, who happened to be my first kiss, broke up with me after borrowing 120 dollars. Not twenty minutes later, he was at the bar drinking with my brothers and my dad. FML
Today, I was dating a guy for 5 years, and I thought he was my soulmate. Until he stole more than 60K from me and he's 400k in debt. He has a serious gambling addiction and his probably never going to stop. FML
Today, I opened some junk mail addressed to my fiancé and saw a credit letter about applying for a new mortgage. When I called to tell him his identity was stolen, he admitted he bought a house, and then broke up with me. I had no clue he was unhappy. FML.

And today OP learned that "bad guys" have Bad Guy Problems. Time to pull the ripcord before BF's problems become YOUR problems, OP...

You chose the "Cool" guy who is a rebel over the "nerd". Classic choice of brawn over brains. You should have compromised and found the trade school guy who has little debt, great skills and is smart enough to stay out of jail.

Because he's probably deeper in debt.

Unless the credit card account lists your name on the account BF’s debt is not your problem… I definitely agree that being attracted to “bad boys” is stupid and brings you bad problems. Kick his ass to the curb, change the locks if the lease is in your name and block him on all social media and your phone. Wise up - Is this how you want to spend the rest of your life? … Get counseling if you can to help you understand why you make these choices and how to avoid them in the future… By the way 30k in credit card debt with no income and no prospects is a much worse than twice that in student loans but with an actual career.

if you would have went for the dentist he most likely has 150k in student loan debt so either way you could have been screwed.

I can't believe you kept him. For me, being incarcerated is a dellbreaker unless you are heavily entrenched. Statistically that guys life is about to become way harder.

It's your boyfriend, not your husband. Meaning his credit card debt is his responsibility alone. Unless you're married, you don't have shared assets. Unless the card is in both of your names, in which case, YDI for not monitoring it.
