Sing me to sleep
Today, there are two parts to my life: The 12 hours I spend in bed each night trying to fall asleep, with limited success, and the 12 hours I'm up and trying *not* to fall asleep, also with limited success. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I have officially lost count of how many nights in a row I couldn’t fall asleep until the small hours, even though I go to bed early and get up early every single day. I’m the kind of person who needs at least nine hours of sleep to be anything other than useless and depressed. FML
Today, I'm trying to sleep. If I fall asleep now, that's still four hours of sleep. My brain: "Enjoy this retrospective of assorted failures from your childhood through today! We now join the program already in progress." FML
Today, my insomnia wins. I'm too wired and awake to sleep, but too stoned on my sleeping pills to get up and do something productive. FML
Today, I was finally diagnosed with insomnia. The trouble is, because of my physical disability, I also have diagnosed chronic fatigue. Barely can stay awake during the day, can't sleep at night. FML
Today, I realized what pulling an all-nighter means in reality. You’re psyched and active for about two hours after the decision, then you plod along bleary-eyed for another 4-8h, after which you inevitably fall into bed, only to end up tired and with a fucked-up sleep cycle for the next few days. FML
Today, I realized that apparently there are only two general states of mind in my life: 1) Utter mental and physical exhaustion while wondering whether my job has irrevocably ruined my health yet, or 2) depression and latent panic for being an unemployed loser with no stable income. FML
Today, and like most days, I spend my day pretending to be happy just so other people won’t suspect anything, then as soon as I get home I just collapse on the sofa miserable, and eventually fall asleep only to wake up the next day to do it all over again. FML
Today, it’s the fourth day in a row I’ve laid in bed for hours with my eyes shut, wide awake, then watched the sun rise. All my parents have to say is, “Insomnia isn’t real. Just go to bed earlier.” FML
Today, I'm an insomniac. My husband knows this but still woke me up throwing a fit because he lost a round on his stupid fucking cellphone game. He has to watch a 15 second ad for another life; meanwhile, I’ll be lucky if I fall back asleep before the sun comes up. FML
Today, I realized that not only do I dream about sleeping or passing out, but that those are the best ones. FML

As a person with severe bipolar, and a really bad permanent back injury with 24/7/365 pain, I feel for you. I can’t get more than 3 hours of sleep unless I stay up for 48hours and crash into bed dead tired. Even then, I may only get 5-6 hours before pain wakes me up and keeps me awake. Might need to see if you are bipolar. It heavily affects sleep, or may be seasonal depression. At minimum, I suggest if you are heavily affected by caffeine, cut intake by 5 PM. Drink water from there. If you need to, experiment with aroma therapy and audio relaxation. I use myNoise apps on iPhone to make thunderstorms sounds on my stereo with deep rumbles like thunder. For some reason, it calms me down and I feel better being inside with distant thunder in background. But keep trying to find what helps.
